DH works at a job where he is overworked and WAY underpaid. He is constantly working late and receives no over time. He is supposed to receive half comp time for every hour he works overtime, but the boss never actually grants comp time to anyone...
He was home sick yesterday, which is pretty much the first time he has taken a sick day in the 4 years he has worked there! Now he has to work Saturday to catch up on stuff, but they're still taking the sick day from him!!
Every Friday night for the last few weeks, we've had plans, and every Friday night, he has been VERY late. Tonight, a friend is coming for dinner, and Brad is still at work. He told one of his bosses that he could not work past 7 tonight....he's still there.
Part of the problem is that Brad takes care of the last step of a long process, so he needs to wait for others to finish their part before he can do his job...things have deadlines and have to get out on time, so he has to stay and get them done....I do understand this, but it's really frustrating when he promises me he'll be home on time, then isn't.
His hours are supposedly 10-6. He ALWAYS goes in at 9 and almost never leaves before 7..lately, not before 8 We end up eating really late, which I hate, and I feel like I spend my whole evening sitting around waiting for him...
Sorry for being so whiny..I just needed to vent!

I wish he would...this was never supposed to be long term. The thing is, even though he doesn't like working late, he is relatively happy there.
We talked about this a bit the other night, and he wants to go back to school and get his masters before he looks for another job. He doesn't want to start his masters until i'm done with school and working...so I feel like it's just being put off.
I swear, I've been so tempted to search for new jobs for him!
I think part of the problem is that he does so much where he is currently that he feels guilty leaving..it's a small company and he feels some loyalty to it. I, on the other hand, feel NONE!!

OMG I am in the same boat. I got so angry this week and DH says to me 'It pays the bills' which of course made me more angry. He's supposed to work 9-530. The earliest he came home was 7:45 on Thursday. I also understand the whole 'waiting around' thing. I cant stand it. Who the heck wants to start cooking dinner at 8:00? It sux. His office also moved yesterday so they have to go in Tomorrow (YES on a sunday) and test everything to make sure its up and running! They were supposed to be off yesterday, but of course, that didnt happen. Next Saturday a bunch of us booked rooms in CT. and are going to Mohegan Sun. He may have to work. I told him, plz tell your boss your not coming. We will see, hopefully he will put his foot down. I also hate that he's salary so it doesnt matter how early he goes in, or how late he comes home. I LOVE that I get to sign in, and sign out from the minute I get there, to the minute I leave and yes, I also get OT. My salary is not great though, but if you add it up, it comes out decent. I am so glad im not the only one in this 'boat'. TY for letting me vent too! Good Thread.

Wow..sounds like we're in VERY similar situations...it's so frustrating. I'm sorry you're dealing with it too.
Tonight's update: Brad went in today and said there was no way he was working later than 6, b/c everything needed to be finished by then. He called me during the day and told me that he would probably be done even earlier, b/c there was less for him to do than he thought...
...so, 6:00 rolls around, and I haven't heard from him. I called at 6:15, and was very rushed with me and said he was trying to get everything done....
I had originally told my friend we would try to get to her party EARLY tonight so that I could help her get stuff ready...now I doubt we'll even be on time. I'm just so annoyed, and I know it's not Brad's fault, but I have no one else to get annoyed with.
