So annoyed...I need some advice

So annoyed...I need some advice

So I talked to my parents about my price quote from the florist. They said it was wayyyyy too much and that they wanna spend no more than 2,000 on flowers but they want me to get high centerpieces. Now we are fighting about this and they don't understand that high ones are much more money than the low ones. They want me to go to a local florist to see if I can get cheaper prices. My parents are paying for the wedding which I am sooooo grateful for but they are making me feel so guilty for spending the money now. I'm not going overboard with what we are spending but i'm sick of the complaining. I don't know how to talk to them about all this without causing more of a fight. If you don't mind sharing, what have u girls spent on flowers? And what do u think of the situation? Thanks.

I would sit down and talk to them about and if they won't budge (sp?) then maybe offer to split the flowers with them.

FM'ing you my price

its really does make a difficult situation when parents are paying for the wedding because then you have to get every prce okayed with them. my parents decided to give us a set amount of money to use how we needed. and when we go over that we pay for it. this way we dont need to cut back on what we want to fit just their wallets. and the moeny isnt asigned to be used on any specific thing. we can use it for any part of the wedding we want

money talks are always uncomfortable but maybe you can get the quote from some other florist to show your parents its not any cheaper. and ask them to contribute what they want for the flower and you and fh can pay the difference if thats an option?

You are very lucky that your wedding is being paid for! I wouldn't mind switching places with you because we're not getting any help but, anyways you should bring them with you so they can hear the prices for themselves. I had this issue with my mom because she thought I was nuts for having to spend the $$ that I am until I brought her with me to see it for herself now she shut up about it!

I agree, sit down and talk to them about it.

But you may also want to check some of the local florists, they may not charge as much as a florist taht only does weddings, as they want you to be happy enough that you keep going back to them

My parents are paying for most of the wedding, they gave us a budget and anything over that budget is our responsibility. Maybe you can pay for part of it? If your parents are paying for the entire thing, then I think you have to stick with their budget, it is a huge cost to them and I would try to stick to their budget. The florist ended up being our responsibility and we are paying $3k.

I know i'm lucky. That's not what I was really complaining about. I am grateful for what they are doing. I just don't like their attitudes about it. My parents have a problem being clear with me. They've always thrown money at my brother but me, they complain about cuz i'm the hard working one and he's not. So when it comes to the wedding, they make me feel guilty. I'm also upset because my mom has always done EVERYTHING with me. We were like best friends. Now, she doesn't do anything but complain and she doesn't go with me to do any wedding stuff. I miss spending time with her and it really s*cks. She did my brother's weddings with so much enthusiasm but me, it's no big deal.

I'm gonna keep shopping around for florists, I might go with low centerpieces to save money. I'm thinking about it. I gotta weigh all the options.

if there is really no way to get a cheaper price on high CP's and your parents are willing to pay up to $2000 why dont you and FH just put in the difference if those CP's are really the ones you want?

It's a tough situation. Weddings are so much different than they were when our parents got married. It's that generation gap. My dad told me that I should buy a $500 camera and hire someone to take pictures instead of hiring a real photographer. I almost fell off my chair! If he was paying for my wedding we'd all be eating McDonalds. I would explain that to them that that is how much things cost nowadays and ask them if they could help you by calling around for prices. Maybe that will help them see the reality of it. I mean my dad was acting like I was more than happy to spend all this money when I was just trying to tell him this is what things cost...
