SO ANNOYING!!!! (vent)

OK....the contractor started work on our house on Tuesday...great, right?
Well, three days of work and EVERY day there has been a problem. I mean, nothing major, but things that we planned on doing are being changed every day. As soon as he starts working in one are of the house, he realizes that we cant do something...ughhhhh It's not his fault bc there are certain things you cant really tell until u begin the work, but still.....this is annoying!
For example, we didnt buy a dining set yet, but once the house was done, we were gonna get a nice sized china closet bc we HAD the wall space...
P.S. we will not have as much room as we thought bc of how he has to build a closet....
maybe I'm getting annoyed over stupid things...

Anyone else have problems like this?

talk to shelzyp...I know she had tons of issues and vents during the whole building process...

I went from changing a toilet and shower stall to completely gutting a bathroom.

I went from adding a closet in the bedroom to replacing ALL the molding in the entire house so it would match the stupid closet molding in the bedroom.

I went from putting a pergo floor down over existing floor to completely building a new sub-floor and then putting the pergo down.


It's just the way it is unfortunately!

Wow..Jan05bride...you went through a lot..I cant totally see that happening. Thanks for wishing me luck....I am going to need it. I will TRY to enjoy the ride...I bet it will all pay off at the end!

It will pay off in the end! My painter finished today and we are completely ready to sit back and just shop for furniture!

It's technically an empty apartment (FH sleeps upstairs but uses the downstairs where his mom is to 'live') so it's just an empty shell right now.

If I had to live there for the 2-1/2 months it took to complete this I would have killed someone. We didn't have a bathroom for 3 weeks!

Hang in there and please share your nightmare stories with us too ... venting is GOOD for the soul!

I have until next January A looooong time.

But I told FH to use it as a bachelor pad. Let's get furniture and then he can live up there full-time. He's debating it. He's afraid I'm not going to think it's 'new' when I move in. I told him I didn't care and he should do what he wants.

You were right NOT TO WAIT though. It's a lot of work and stress. And who needs that as a newlywed?! LOL. There's enough of an adjustment than having to worry about pipes and paint chips and sound flooring!

Sooooo true It's going to be such a big adjustment. I just cant wait to have the house done...right now there are just beams and a big mess everywhere. As i said in another thread, I will post before and after pics at the end of April. BTW...I dont blame your FH for saying not to stay there. That's why I dont want FH to live in our house before the wedding. I dont like the idea..but that's just my opinion... I just want to have that to look foward to!

I hope to take some photo's this weekend and post some before and afters. It's sooo different now.

FH really wants me to move in now but I think I want to wait. It's only 10 more months, I think I can hold out. Plus I sleep there a few nights a week anyway so I don't think I need to move in and start being domestic yet!

We just gutted our downstairs bath and made it a master bath... knocked down a wall into a small bedroom. New subfloor, replaced windows, glass block shower, corner jacuzzi tub, tile over everything that would stand still.

I have to say that we hit a speed bump every step of the way... whether it was something small like the accent tile that I picked out needed to be changed due to some 'size' thing to we can't put in this size tub without upgrading your water heater. That part of the process I did not mind so much... it's unavoidable.

The part that really got me was that my contractor said estimated date of completion would be about 2 weeks..... well six months later I have a nice bathroom. I felt like I was in that movie the Money Pit with Tom Hanks and Shelly Long.
