SO complicated. need advice

SO complicated. need advice

So my dad doesn't need his car anymore so he decided to give it to FH. He told FH 6 weeks ago that the registration expires July 8 and it has to be transferred before then. FH's dad is going to pay the insurance on it until FH gets a job (he just graduated and he's interviewing).

So I've been bugging FH to ask his dad to get the insurance..he keeps saying 'we;ll go later' and then flat out refusing (this is typical behavior for FFIL, if he doens't feel like doing something, he just won't...he's totally selfish'...

So my parents all the while have been, get your paperowrk together, we'll sign the title over to you and then you can go...well he envr got the insurance card...finally the car's on the insurance as of today, but no physical card, and they never went to the DMV and the car is sitting in front of my house unregistered.

So everyone's arguing over whose fault it is that this is all not done, and there were all of these arguments, cause FH just wanted to take it home to the spot in his apt building lot until he gets the paperwork done..my dad doesn't want to do that because if the cops decide to give aticket it'll go to my dad. Plus now FFIL got disgusted and doesn't want it in the spot. ANyway, the plan was my ad was going to keep it for a week or so to fix a few things and clean it up for FH.

So I found out tonight as FH was leaving (without havingdone anything witht eh car although he now has the ittle) that the real reason his father never did the insurance stuff is b/c his father didn't want to get the insurance until D had the title. I ma really pissed and my aprents are more pissed. I mean, they're GIVING him the car. They don't want to drive it, they want to GIVE it to him. And the insurance was going to take longer anyway...he could have had the insurance, come to get the title and gone to the DMV and had it switched before it expired, but no, FFIL is insane (he really is)...so now my parents don't want to give FH the car anymore because FFIL is acting like such a ****. ANd they're teling me that when FH calls I should tell him they want to the title backI don't know what to do anymore...HELP!

WOW I don't know what to tell you I am sorry that sounds like a tough situation. I understand your parents POV but they are doing this truly for both of you in the end so they should think about that and you should tell your FFIL to Sh1t or get off the pot!!!

im sorry your going through this. i can understand your father being offended by the way your ffil was acting. but i think when he cools down you should try and talk him into giving the car to your fh for the sake of peace. i think it will just cause more problems if he doesnt. good luck

I'm just worried that FFIL is going to cause more grief, esp since ithe insurance is gonna be in his name...I just think it's really f'ed up the wya he's acting, I mean my dad is GIVING him the car...FFIL always acts like he owns the world..Does he actually think my parents are trying to scam him into insuring the car so they cna drive it? I'm just totally offended but not at all surprised

Why did everyone wait until the registration expired before saying anything about it? I always thought you had to have the car registered & insured at pretty much the same time.

I hope everything works out!

My dad and I were bugging FH about getting his dad to do the insurance for weeks... his dad just never did it, it was always 'tomorrow'..well the last day came, FH was supposed to come here to pick up the title, but then at the last minute he couldn;t gt here b/c FFIl had a pool tournament. I hate these people. They're going to make me miserable for the rest of my life, aren't they?

Remember this expression

A son is a son until he takes a wife, a daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life.

I am happy to say in my case we are more involved with my family than his- though his has gotten much better now that the wedding is over!!

It sounds it

Some of DH's family is like that but we don't talk to them. It's the lesser of two evils but I think it's sad it came to this.
