It's so hard saving money for this wedding! I haven't gone shopping for clothing more than once this entire year! I know it sounds petty but this is a HUGE sacrifice for me considering I work in fashion and I'm around clothing constantly. I'm just so depressed about it. Is anyone else kind of bummed about some things they had to sacrifice to save for the wedding? I just need to know I'm not alone!

No I am with you on that. I scarified a lot to be able to put away a certain amount per month. I stopped going to yoga, and I used to go to a dance studio almost 5 days a week but it was costly so all that got cut. And I miss dance so much. I don't get my nails done on a regular only for special occasions, epics, engagement party. I really push it to the makes of when to get my hair cut (so bad). I only shopped once to get a dress for my hs reunion/epic shoot/engagement party. We don't go out as much. It's hard but if we didn't we wouldn't be able to pay for our wedding.

I hear you! We've stopped going on and we have so much going on with family birthdays and mothers day, fathers day we feel bad but we can't afford it anymore! We're trying to make cuts everywhere btu I also think a small splurge once in a while keeps us feeling upbeat that we know what we are working so hard for and that it will pay off.

I feel you. I have hardly bought anything aside from an outfit for our engagement pics and a new bathingsuit for the summer. What I find even harder is all these stupid expenses that pop up when I am trying to save! I feel like I am getting NO WHERE!! Between all the birthdays, graduations, weddings, holidays, vet bills, dentist, doctor- its out of control!

Oh I totally understand. We used to love to go to eat, movies, etc. We barely do anything anymore! I haven't bought clothes for myself in almost 7 months. I know it sounds so foolish to complain about, but I've lost 15 pounds and nothing fits me--I need clothes. We aren't worried about paying for the wedding because we are being so strict, but our happiness is fading a little because we just can't do things we used to love!

Yep, I hardly ever buy clothing anymore and I'm sick of the exercise/diet regimen I'm trying to stick to in order to look awesome that day. Granted, that's a GOOD thing to get into the habit of doing every day, but I still hate it just the same.

I feel you. In the mix of wedding planning/saving we're looking to buy a house! It's so hard to not be able to just go buy whatever you want whenever you want. It's very hard for me to wrap my head around saving for the wedding/buying a house when things just keep coming up....I can't keep up with everything!

I had to cut back loads, so don't worry you are not alone! First sacrifice is we live in an apartment below his parents so our rent is discounted and that allows us to save a lot. Trust me its a HUGE sacrifice to someone that values their privacy lol. Also when I did the math and realized I spend over $700 a year on manicures I cut that out. I also quit smoking and that saves a ton, but I am not regretting that one at all! I feel it most when we aren't able to just go out as much as our friends are or take any weekend trips. It's hard but I am sooo proud of myself really for saving as much as I have already. Its really encouraging too since saving for a house next on my list lol

You're definitely not alone. I've been extra sctrict since we have this trip to hawaii coming up. I've missed so many of my friends birthdays because I just didn't have the money to go out.

Right I feel like fh and I are chasing our tails with this never ending cycle having money to save one second and 5 expenses the next.

FH and I often contemplate just going to Town Hall and getting married. We hate not being able to go out with friends anymore, not going out to dinner and cutting down on so many things that were routine to us. We do try to go out once a week (with coupons) and just unwind and enjoy each other's company. Even though most of our friends are single, they are great. We usually end up hanging out at each other's places and having dinner, drinks and movie night.

I totally understand!! I haven't gone shopping for myself in quite a long time and it's getting depressing. Last week I got a new car and as much as I'm love with it, the additional bill each month is making me nervous! I can't wait until after the wedding - I'm going on shopping spree at VS for honeymoon clothes! Lol

Oh Marie, you're speaking my language. The most frustrating part for me, though, is the fact that none of my friends understand. Most are single, and the ones who have boyfriends aren't close to engagement or marriage, so they go out and party all the time. The majority of them work in restaurants too, so they don't just go out on Friday/Saturday like normal people, but pretty much every day is an excuse to go to the bar. They make me feel SOOOO BAD about not going out with them, but I can't go out and drop $60 a night on shots anymore. While I love going out and dancing and drinking, I would rather save for my dress or a photo booth or something else that I want for the wedding. Or even save for a down payment on a house! But my friends see it as me being boring now, and make sure they tell me any chance they get.
I guess that's why I love talking to you girls on these boards, because you get it. So don't be depressed, Marie, just think of all the clothes you'll be able to buy after the wedding!!!
Also, just out of curiosity, have you ever been to Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg? I can only guess you have a lot of trendy and amazing clothes, and if you are considering getting rid of them or wanna make some extra cash to buy new clothes, they are a consignment store and they only buy good condition awesome clothes. You should definitely stop in and check it out if you haven't already!!

I shopped on Wednesday. I mean... I had to plan it in advance... but I needed a dress for a wedding that we have tonight. But I shopped. It was SO cathartic LOL. It was like... OOOOOHHHH... new dress... new belt... ahhhhh
I just miss when I was able to go to the store and shop as much as I wanted and not feel guilty.

you are all 100% not alone!!! my reality check came about a week ago....see even with the wedding planning I continued to spend like it was going out of style!!!! when i want something, i buy it without regards to anything else. I still save, dont use credit card, and pay all my bills, but know i can save a lot more.....so i had a major major reality check and now have to stop my spending and i nearly cried to FH :( he even made me return these super cute shoes! :( you are not alone!

Stace- I was actually thinking of doing this, but I kind of forgot with all the wedding planning. I think I'll go there next weekend. Thanks for the reminder boo!

2013 bride crashing! 100% feeling the exact same way these days! Saving this kind of money for a wedding and a home too is very overwhleming. Every paycheck is allocated and spent before even reciveing it. In the begining it was a lot easier, now that it is getting closer for me I am getting really tired of not being able to shop for anything espically with summer here. I work in the city and I am always browsing store windows and websites dying to make purchases. I was just saying the other day to my friend that I feel like an anarexic waiting to bidge! I think we all need to just keep telling us that it will be all worth it in the end, and this is a (hopefully)a once in a lifetime experiance. There is always next season to catch up on the latest trends! Keep strong and focused ladies!:)

i feel the same way. We used to go out all the time to dinner and movies etc. I haven't bought clothes in a long time and have been cooking all of our meals. We knew we would have to save $$$ so we saved all of our gift cards from christmas and birthdays and when we need a night out we use them. I use a lot of the 'points' cards for free movie tickets etc. So this way we don't feel totally deprived.
