SO DEPRESSED AND FRUSTRATED (SP?)!!!!

SO DEPRESSED AND FRUSTRATED (SP?)!!!!

I have been endlessly searching for a job for a couple of months now and
nothing still. I graduated in May and hold a BA and am applying to Law
school for the fall. I have tried everything even restaurants (they want
someone with experience) and today I just felt like crying!!! I went to this
guy who has a travel agency and knows my mom. He took a look at my
resume and said that my problem was that I was overqualified!!!!! I don't
know where to look anymore and I haven't been able to help FH with any
of the expenses of the wedding. I was hoping to work full-time this year
that I took off to save as much as I could for the wedding and other
expenses(I also need a car) but now I am getting worried. If I start school
this fall, I won't be able to work that much and I am just afraid that we wont
be able to do this whole wedding thing. I'm desperate!!!!

I am sorry - I can imagine how frustrating it is to look for a job.

Can you alter your resume a bit so that you can get a job you are over qualified for now until you start law school?

I was actually thinking about doing that. Maybe leave out my internship
and my community involvements. I will just stick with my education and
my job while in college. thanks.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time - the market isnt good now - but why dont you look into paralegal positions...??

I'm not sure what your mom's friend meant by you are over qualified?

this is pretty subjective...you are not overqualified to be a lawyer (you don't have the degree yet - so really you are underqualified)...but to be a stock girl...yes you are overqualified...just as an example

I think maybe you need to look for jobs that were in the same area as your internship

maybe look for a headhunter in that area or as someone mentioned for paralegals...

usually when people tone down their resume its b/c they have too much management experience and they are willing to step down to a non-management position or are looking to go in another direction...

I would look into the LIW position. Even though it is PArt time, they are offering Benefits....

You know what I did when I was waiting to go to law school - I went to a Temp Agency and was willing to accept anything I could get that would pay my bills. I ended up taking a temp to permanent position at a company that made signs and worked as a liason between the sales staff and the factory workers. I was crazy overqualified, and terribly underpaid, but I did a good job and they created an even better position for me and I worked there through my first year of law school and went to school at night.

Have you tried a temp agency?

definitely try a temp agency. that's how i got all my jobs before this one. they're pretty willing to help and you can go to a couple of them if you don't get results quickly from one. good luck!

What was your internship? What is your degree in?

Sounds like some of the other posters gave you some good ideas. You may be able to combine the Temp idea with the paralegal idea. Sometimes its easier to get a temp job and it could lead to full time and it would be great to get something that is related to your field.

I totally understand how frustrating this situation is. I have been looking for a guidance counselor position for two years and interviewers tell me I have a great resume but don't have enough experience. How I am supposed to get experience if I don't get a chance to be hired? The catch-22 situation.

I hope things work out for you. Let us know how it goes.

Well, my internship was with the Nassau County Legislature.
I was an intern for Leg. Norma Gonsalves of the 13th district.
and I got a BA in Political science.

I have looked into paralegal positions, but they all want at least 2yrs
experience and to have knowledge of whatever kind of law they practice
and dictaphone and things like that.

Yes, actually I went two days ago to a staffing agency and they will get
