So disappointed with Scholastic!

So disappointed with Scholastic!

My neighbors son is 8......mom wants him to read more........so I brought home some books from my library for his age level, and he wound up liking one book so much, that he actually wrote me the sweetest note and stuck it in my door!! Made my heart melt!

So I order more books from that series from Scholastic last Thursday, and I FINALLY get an email today saying that they shipped. It took 1 week to put 3 books in a box??? I called them on Monday to complain and said that I want to cancel the order because if it were Amazon, they would have shipped the very next day. The lady said I can't cause the postal slip had already been printed.......huh?????????? You had no problem printing the mailing slip, but not packing the books???

The worst of it is, I now won't get the books before my vacation, and I wanted to wrap them up in a bow, leave them in front of his door and write a letter from the 'Book Fairy'......now I have to wait!

Moral of the story is.......order from Amazon!!!!!!!! Much quicker and same prices!!!!!!!

Marni that is such a sweet thing for you to do for that little boy. I love the 'Book Fairy' idea . I am a great believer in doing whatever it takes to get a child to enjoy reading. What a wonderful idea!

It's a shame that Scholastic couldn't do better than that for you. Pretty lousy service if you ask me! I will make sure never to use them. I have used Amazon in the past and they are usually pretty quick.

But when you get home the books will be here and you can still surprise him!! I bet he will be totally thrilled!!

I feel your pain. I work for another big publisher I'll call 'P' (to protect the innocent and the guilty) and our warehouse has the most difficult time getting books to our office in a timely fashion. I have sent in comp orders and told them we needed them for publicity stuff and the order didn't get processed until 3 days after I faxed it. It's all over

Wendy - thanks! I feel the same regarding children and reading......if they lose it early, that's it for them (especially with our visual society with video games, tv, movies, etc.). It's also proven that boys tire much easier than girls when it comes to fiction. They need a 'purpose' to their reading, or they lose interest. And sometimes it is difficult to find nonfiction on their level...

Juliet - I couldn't understand why they didn't have contact with their warehouse. I understand the customer service reps don't have the books at their desk, but they should be able to have direct access to them when dealing with customers (not their fault, but annoying when they are trying to provide service!) I was trying to throw some business their way, but I learned that from now on I will only deal with them for book fairs through the school and nothing else. It's a shame really...thanks for sharing though!
