We got a call about PreCana. Kinda makes it a little more real. He wants to do it all in one shot... a 5 hour class or something. Has anyone ever done it like that? With his grueling work schedule this seems to work best. He is NOT happy about doing it either! He was going on and on about not liking someone tell us how we should be as a couple and blah blah blah. Me.. I don't mind so much. I think it might be fun... but I think he is going to be very closed off to talking or anything... which only means I will have to be EXTRA UPBEAT about it to even him out a little bit. Maybe he will have a good time with it after all.

Re: So FH told me that
Mine is 9-4 Sat and 9-4 Sunday, yeah FH wasn't going more than one weekend either. They have those weekends where you go and stay at a hotel, but you are not allowed to stay together and I didn't really think he'd go for that either.

Really? I didn't know that. And I don't think he would go for that either.. paying for 2 rooms?!??! No thank you! The wedding alone is costing enough.. I don't want any added expenses!

We are doing one of the weekend ones... it's at this castle upstate I forget what it's called. It's not like you pay for two rooms there is one price per couple for the weekend. It's not so much they are trying to babysit you, you are separated most of the weekend to reflect by yourself and you write each other letters and stuff.
A friend's now-hubby was so against going but he ended up really enjoying it and now says how great it was and it really helped their relationship. They went to the same one we are going to.
It's not really them telling you how to be. It's just looking at your relationship from a step back and working on communication.
I'm sure everyone's experience is different so hopefully you have a good priest and you have a good experience!
BTW I am not catholic (episcopalian), FH is, we are having the ceremony in a catholic church bc it was important to his family. So I am a little nervous about going just for that but overall I think it will be good.

WOW - I live in queens and this diocese requires you take it within 6 montsh of the wedding! Where is your church. We are doing a two-day. Friday night and all day Saturday.

Re: So FH told me that
We went Saturday, 8:30 to 3:30, and we will meet with the priest like two more times, and that's it. It was boring, and we didn't find much of it useful, but we went through it together and it's over!!
I say get the class over with, and if you're going to follow the religion, go to church . . . I get more out of that than I did precana, but that's just me.
It's not fun. To learn communication we had to listen for a full minute while our guys talked about beer, and they had to listen while we talked about bridesmaid dresses. WE DID NOT PICK THOSE TOPICS, THEY WERE CHOSEN FOR US.
Personally, my FH and I can listen to each other talk for a minute -- even longer!!!! -- without the pushing, and we usually have more important things to discuss than beer and dresses . . . it was dumb.
We'd have been better off if my FH had a beer in his hand, and I could have been looking at bridesmaid dresses.

We were planning on doing the engaged encounter weekend until we found a 5 hour course. However I can limit this for FH I am.

Each church is different.....If they don't offer it through the church, you have to go through the diocese - which is i think a 2 day thing....we just went last sunday - my church (in bklyn) did it themselves. We went to 1130mass and then stayed witht he decan till 3. It wasnt so bad....they dont ask you personal questions to tell in front of everyone, they just try to guide you and help you look at your relationship and how you should handle certain situations....It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be....it actually made me realize how even more me and my fh are meant to be together....
