So girls, were you ever that nasty BM who dropped out?

I was (lower head in shame). About 6 years ago a girl I worked w/, Heather, asked me to be in her BP. This was weird, since we had NEVER hung out and weren't very close (maybe she just wanted to fill a spot), I said yes because I was 19 or 20 and didn't know how to say no, and I thought t could be fun. Two weeks later, my friend Ana, one of MY BM's got engaged. She asked me and one other girl to be in her BP. I actually WANTED tobe in her BP. Now, I was 19, a full time student, working in retail hell, part time for very little $$, and well, 2 weddings wasn't happening. But since I aggreed, I decided to do them both, well, Heather picked out these BM dresses that were close to $700.... when I told her that this simply WASN'T feasible, she told me she would get me more hours at work..... So, I grew a pair and said. 'look, I shouldn't have said yes, we're not very close, and I am very sorry, but I simply can't afford it' she got all huffy and would no longer speak to me *granted, she still had a year to go, and NOTHING had been done as far as her wedding, it wasn't like 3 weeks before!! Work was very awkward, and she actually got transfered a few weeks later.

I did it 2 weddings, both for each of my brother's. My first brother who got married ended up throwing my other brother's out of his wedding party, and then his wife wanted me to travel to Ohio to get fitted in the middle of finals week in college - I couldn't make it and decided to contact his soon to be wife and informed her gently that I didn't think it was a good idea for me to be in her wedding.

My other brother - his wife was a royal PITA with her wedding party! I dropped out of that wedding b/c I had no money for the $200/night hotel, the $350 BM dress, to get my hair done, etc, etc.

We're just one big happy family. However, my first brother who got married, - his wife and I are now best friends and she's my MOH and that ended up working out well in the end!

I did. And I regret it.

When I was 21, a good friend asked me and my best friend to be in her wedding party (the 3 of us were very close, but I was closer to my best friend). The best friend, I'll call her 'E' decided she didn't want to be in the wedding anymore and started a bunch of fights with the bride, I'll call her 'KM', and I was always in the middle. 'KM' was being a bit of a bridezilla with some things and I think that 'E' wanted out so badly she really made things worse in her head and we both dropped out.

Fast foward to when I was 23, I was the MOH in 'E's wedding. I haven't seen her since. She and I just completely lost touch. She did call me b/c 'KM' tried to come into contact with her, well, I emailed 'KM' myself and we have become VERY close again, she came to my wedding and we have made a very strong mature friendship.

Meanwhile, 'E' got a hold of some of my proofs and sent out an email to mutual friends how 'disgusting' I looked and all of these nasty things. Niiiiccccce.

Anyway, the moral of my story is, I wish that I had thought with my own brain!

Re: So girls, were you ever that nasty BM who dropped out?

I was one of those girls that got kicked out of a wedding. I was best friends with 'M' in college, but once she started dating her new boyfriend we lost touch. 2 years later I got a call asking me to go out to dinner and she asked me to be her MOH. She has a sister, but didn't want her to be MOH because she has a habit of causing scenes. I was surprised that I was asked to be in the wedding let alone the MOH and the sister was really pissed off. When it came to planning the shower M's mother didn't offer to pay a penny, but she insisted on having it at a fancy restaurant for 50 plus people. Everyone in the BP was 1 year out of college and didn't have the money for it. Then M came to my house and said that she was hearing from her mother and sister that I wasn't interested in putting forth the effort to be in the BP. She actually had the balls to criticize me for having cable tv and said that she couldn't afford it because she was saving for the wedding. At that point she demoted me to a regular BM. I don't know why I didn't just say that I didn't want to be in the wedding at that point, but I didn't. Then we move to the B-party planning. M's sister was only 20 at the time. We had planned to go to the city and see a show (that the sister could get into) and then go out drinking. Her sister said that I wasn't including her in the B-party. M then called me and told me that she thought it would be better if I just attended the wedding and wasn't in it. Needless to say I did NOT go and I did NOT send a gift. I could not believe how crazy some people can be about weddings.

After the wedding I heard that another BM was asked to get extra flowers to decorate the church on the day of. When she got back M's mother handed her $20. When she said that it was actually more like $200 M's mother said 'Well, you have certain responsibilities as a bridesmaid...'

Sorry so long, but this makes me so mad every time I think about it. I'm going out of my way to make sure that my BP doesn't have to spend too much money!!
