My cat was diagnosed 3 years ago with an overactive thyroid. No problem. I have been giving him meds. He still loses a lot of weight. I bring him every 3 months to the vet. we went on Monday and the vet thought he may need fluids every other day. As I left she called and told me his liver and kidney are OK but suggested I bring him in on Tuesday to have an ultrasound down. I did and received the results. they told me he has liver cancer. He is 22 years old. I dont want to put him under the knife. He still is eating jumping and still goes to the bathroom in his litter box. He doesn't seem to be suffering. They are not sure if he had this for two years already. I have been crying nonstop for days....

Aw, I'm so sorry ... I had to put my cat down last year, I know what you are going through.
22 years old for a cat is a very long life, and I'm sure you made it 22 wonderful years for him! If he is still in such good shape, I'm gonna guess he did not have the cancer too long. I totally understand you not wanting to go through with the surgery. At his age, what will it accomplish, a few more months that he may already have without all the pain and recovery that's involved? Is it worth it?
Whatever you decide, just remember that you gave him a long life and a loving family.

Re: So I am devastated. Had to share.
i am so sorry! like everyone else says, i would let him live his finaly time in peace. not worth it to put him under and go through all that recovery time. It seems likely that he hasn't had the cancer very long if he still seems active and will eat and go to the bathroom regularly.

So sorry to hear! A similar thing happened to my cat. She had throat cancer but she was suffering so we had to put her down.

I have a 21 year old cat in a similar situation. She has kindey problems so we have to give her an IV every night.
She jumps and eats and she's so adorable. I agree, a cat that old is too old to do any surgery on They're likle 100 in human years.., just do what you can to make him comfortable and enjoy him
