So I don't like my ring

So I don't like my ring

So I picked out my own ring for the wedding. FH isn't wearing one, so I sort of went on my own to do this. I picked a ring out that I thought I liked. The other day I went to look at it again, and I hate it lol It just doesnt go with my E-ring ,and I feel its a bit masculine looking. I want something a bit more plain. It has diamond cuts in it, and it has squared off edges on the ...edge lol

Can I take this ring and bring it to a jewelry store, and have them either 1) melt it down for another ring, 2) buy it from me and use that price towards a new ring????

Has anyone done this before?

Also, if there are any places in Nassau or Suffolk county that would be great.

TIA!

Re: So I don't like my ring

Well let me start out by saying I am kind of queen when it comes to changing my rings lol. I picked out my ering setting but than I had issues with pave stones falling out, so I took it back and picked something else out (but I felt rushed to pick something and I made a choice I wasn't happy with), took it back to the jeweler to get something else. We used Karat Shop in Huntington, as long as you have the receipt they let you upgrade to whatever you want. I am even doubting my wedding band I picked and I am thinking about changing that, its still on layaway so that shouldn't be a problem to change at all.

Look at your receipt and see if there are any return problems, call them and see if they will let you exchange for the same amount of money and you can just look for something else.

Here's the thing. My mom's friend knows a woman who owns a store in a flea market, and that is why I went to her. I just didn't really liker her selection. I did pick out one that I liked, and they wound up telling me that it was discontinued, half way through me paying for it. SO I picked one out just for the purpose of picking one out I suppose.

I don't have the reciept, that is why I need to know if someone can just buy jewelry and take the balance and apply it to something they have in thier own store?

the only thing I can suggest is to go to Tri- country Jewlery exchange , they can do a swap or add on there. There are tons of vendors, some nice, some not so much, but that would be your best bet IMO

yayyy that is all I needed. AS long as it is possible for someone to do a swap or something like that, I will be happy. :) THANK YOU!

You should be able to find a place to buy it, but you probably wont get near what you paid for it. Go to local jewelers or pawn shops and get some offers.

I sold a gold necklace i never wore to them and ended up swapping and adding $ and getting a pair of earrings. But you will not get the same value that you paid for it, maybe an even exchange IF the vendor likes the piece

I'm actually doing this, but after the wedding. FH got me a really beautiful engagement ring, but it came in a set with a wedding band I do NOT like at all. It's just a plain old band, very boring for my style. We were told by the jewelry store that we can 'exchange' it. How that works though is that we can return it and get $100 credit for the new ring we pick out.

The jeweler is in Colorado (where FH lives and where we'll be moving in January) so we're just gonna take care of all that when we get back after wedding.

So I don't see why you couldn't do the same. You could probably exchange it, and pay the interest (if the new band is more expensive or whatever).

yup, that is all I want to be able to do. Bring it into any jewelry store and have them credit me, or just let me pay the difference if the new ring that I want , is more. Id on't mind that. I just want a different ring lol

i would assume that it would be no problem as long as you return it to the place where you got it from
