So I just managed to totally snap at and get into an argument with me FMIL

I Imed her to show her the website for NRC. She said it was pretty, and then she startsin with :I know you wanted a christmas theme, but I really think it takes away from you two, you're not thrwoing a christmas party. I'm totally against it'

THAT pissed me offf, so I said
:that's why you didn't have it at your wedding. it's a good thing this is my wedding and I get to decide.'

and she kept on, so finally I was like 'I've always wanted a December/Christmas wedding and you're never going to change my mind, so you might as well save it'

And then of COURSE it turned into like this big thing abut the ceremony, and how she thinks it's 'Inappropriate to aks jews to go to church and or/ catholics to go to synagogue' and I said I go to people's weddings everywhere w/o batting an eyelash and if people care about us, they'll come to our wedding whethert it's in a buddhist temple, a sewer or a whore house. and what's inappropraite is people projecting THEIR issues onto our wedding.


Was I totally harsh?

I'm just so upset with this ceremony thing it's totally unresolved. Dates are getting booked up and we still hae NO idea what we're doing about the ceremony. I hate both of our families right now.

ok, i may not know a few parts to this story so forgive me

i totally agree that this is your wedding you and your FH are the 'boss'

the tricky part here is that christmas, as beautiful as it is, is still a religious holiday that not all people celebrate. As far removed as we have become with gifts and trees and lights, it's Jesus's birthday first and foremost.

And since FH's family is Jewish, I can understand the push back from your MIL because she's going to be the one that has to explain to the relatives why the event has a catholic spin to it. It looks like your FH had no say in it and that he's taking his religious roots for granted, even if that's not true

It's not EVEN a chirstmas theme. i just like that the hall will be decorated for XMAS, and the girls will ave cranberry dresses. That's the extend of the 'christmas theme'. I'm not having like...geez I don't even know what. And I frankly don't CARE if she doesn't like it. I dont care WHO likes it. In case you couldn't tell I have a very 'If they don't like it, F--K 'em attitude' about things I want to do that I don't feel will hurt anyone. and she's NOT paying a PENNY! So she doens't ahve to explain anything, they can come to me i they have a problem and I can say 'We love christmas!' yep, WE...my JEWISH FH LOVE CHRISTMAS. it's his favorite holiday. SO THERE, FMIL!

Marymoon I think you were dead on with your FMIL. And I think she's also wrong - people will go to the ceremony. I mean it's not like no one has been invited to weddings where they do not practice the same belief as the couple. It's not like lightening will strike anyone.

It's definitely wrong of people to tell you what you can or can't do wtih YOUR wedding....If you want a winter theme...go for it!
There are ways to do it without offending people who don't celebrate Christmas!
I always wanted a winter-themed wedding also, but becasue of school holidays, it wouldn't have worked.....so we chose early spring...

i'm certainly jealous that you can have those cranberry dresses!!!
