I have to say the ceremony was LOVELY. but they made some choices that just seemed soo weird.
For instance: there were FOUR passed hors d'oeuvres. Just 4. There were 2 buffet stations and that was the whole meal!!!! For 350 people, it was a buffet with just 2 options. Also, they didnt do assigned tables so it was a free for all to find seating.
The band never announced the cake cutting so we didnt end up seeing it....and the band leader kept getting the groom's last name wrong...so instead of Mr. and Mrs. Cohen (not a hard last name) he kept saying Cowen.
It was still fun once the party got started but the pacing was all off and the food situation was just too strange!!! I guess they just do stuff differently there.
Best part was FH telling me all these things we need (like a cardbox and other stuff) and I was like 'what do you think I've been working on for the last 10 months? all of a sudden you're a wedding expert and I've been hammering out the details this whole time!'
anyways, that's my story, thought I'd share!

Re: So I went to a wedding in Texas this weekend...
HA! It's really funny to attend weddings in other parts of the country. Only then do you realize how INSANE ( in a good way!) NY/NJ/LI weddings can be.

Re: So I went to a wedding in Texas this weekend...
I have been to weddings all over the place. I have been to one in TX and it was very casual compared to what we see here.. No assigned seating, and not plated (buffets very common, even bbq). It was lovely, and I was relaxed and enjoyed myself. My friends in PA have 'football' weddings where they make alot of the food (turkeys, hams, potato salads etc), people bake, and even gift a cake and dj services. My friends are not making what we make in NYC so they could never afford per plate what we do here. It just depends on the area, and people. I have been to the other extreme where they are soooo fancy and so elegant they take your breath away..

Re: So I went to a wedding in Texas this weekend...
I'm glad you had as much fun at your Texas wedding as I did at my Baltimore wedding. Remember how we were discussing what was an appropriate amount of money for a gift I told some of FH's friends that I wanted to give the couple $300 as a gift and their faces all dropped we ended up giving them $200 and people told us that was still too much.
The wedding we went to in Maryland was in a building that had two separate rooms all the 20 somethings in a completely different room. We couldn't hear the band and practically never saw the bride and groom. They had a buffet dinner that here on LI we would have considered a cocktail hour. Get this my favorite part - their favors were dunkin donuts munchkins - they should have saved themselves the trouble and made a donation
