I am not sure what to believe?

I have always had great skin (very ocasional 1 pimple every few months).
Last week I got a bad pimple and small bumps (colorless) on my face. Looked like chicken skin if you looked closely. By the time I got appointent for Dr they were almost gone, only had pimple left. She rx retnine-A. Not my skin is getting all dried out.

What do I do. I don't know if I really needed the rx.

She prescribed retin-A because it increases the rate of cell turnover. If you're getting pimples or bumps, the retin-A will help get rid of old cells and produce new ones.
Retin-A WILL dry out your skin at first, but eventually you'll be fine. Make sure to only use a tiny bit at a time.

Also, make sure you stay OUT of the sun when using Retin-A. Your skin is super sensitive when you're on that stuff and can b-u-r-n!

I worried because before last week I never had a problem and don't know if I need something so harsh.

they said only put the size of a pea on entire face. how do you spread that small on an amount on???

Yup - that's what they told me - a pea size for the entire face! Can't do it. I used a pea size for the affected area and it was fine. My skin was a little dry and flaky for a few days but then it went away.

There are treatments that are similar to Retin A but much milder. Talk to your dermatologist. You don't need something so harsh. I can't remember the name of my prescription, but it's milder than Retin A b/c my doctor didn't want to prescribe something so harsh for me.

I did use retin a in the past, and found that I had to use it every other night rather then every night. But, if you can get away w/out using it and get something milder I would.
