If you are looking for a younger crowd and some good shopping & boardwalk to go Pacific Beach. The Gaslight district was cool if you are in the city party. I loved La Jolla, it was really nice.

I go there often as FH has lots of family there....
San Diego Zoo Wild Animal Park Shopping/Lunch in La Jolla Spend a day on Coronado Island....my fave thing to do in San Diego is to go to the Hotel Del Coronado for breakfast or lunch outside...it is the most beautiful hotel and it's right on the beach. You can spend the day on the island of Coronado just walking around....it's beautiful there. Parts of Top Gun were filmed in Coronado!
Have some mexican food in Old Town!
Shops at Seaport Village which is in downtown San Diego are so cute....reminds me a little bit of South Street Seaport but nicer. Also great restaurants on the water there.
Del Mar is also really beautiful.
My only must do every time in San Diego though is the Hotel Del!

Hey if you're up for it - take a drive down across the Mexican border to either Tijajuana or down to Rosarito for cheap and yummy lobsters!!!
OR - take a nice drive up to Laguana Beach if you have time.....also a fun day trip!
