so lucky!

so lucky!

So, my FSIL's BIL is the founder of Amazon.com... FSIL's sister (his wife) and I met a few years ago and got into the convo of Scarsdale's schools (where her kids go) vs, Bronx schools (where I work). She was appalled at the differences! A few weeks later, I received boxes upon boxes of school supplies from her and some PTA members in her school.
She has continued to send boxes every summer and I just got them this year.. Over 15 boxes of pencils, charts, paper, craft supplies, teacher activity books, math manipulatives, workbooks, etc..
I cried! I am so grateful to them and it makes me so happy how thoughtful and generous people can be, for myself and children they don't even know! Just thought it was a nice event to share, as opposes the trash we hear in the news every day.

SETSS is a great position. Good luck!

Before I was hired, I pictured myself teaching the lower grades. When I interviewed at my current school, the only position available was 5th grade. I decided to try it and I ended up loving it.

Thank you! I wanted it so bad. I get frustrated in the classroom bc I know all of my students strengths/weaknesses/tools for success, but i cant implement that for 25 kids at once. I know I will be a more effective teacher this way and further their academics more. I'm super excited for it!

where do you teach? The older grades are fun bc u can be sarcastic and talk to them like people and they get it... But our kids frighten me.. they are huge and have facial hair! (and thats just the girls!-- hahah totalllllllly kidding!)

That was funny! A lot of my students are taller than me. Whenever another teacher or a.p. comes in my room, they have trouble finding me. If I had a nickel for everytime I heard 'you blend in' I'd be rich. Haha!

I agree with you. It's difficult to meet the diverse learning needs of our students especially with high class registers. I teach in Elmhurst. The kids are very sweet except for the occasional few.

sadly, i get that too with the first graders. I'm always laying on the floor or sitting on a stool at their tables, but whatever works!

i'm in s. bronx, so some of our 6th graders are like 15... :::sigh:::
