So...my reception is from 7-11 on a Sunday and I really wanted to extend it to midnight because after the cocktail hour that only leaves 3 hours of reception!! Originally, my caterer told me it would only be $500 for the extra hour...but I just got my 'bride and groom packet' (basically some new paperwork w/ information from the rh) and it says that it is going to cost $500 extra for the site, $1500 to keep the staff and extra hour, and and extra $15pp to keep the bar open. WHAT???? Who does that? I don't have an extra $2500 in my budget for this!!!

$2500 for an hour seems crazy especially when most halls give you 4hr reception normally.

I always thought that too. I just checked my contract and mine is 7-12. Are you sure you don't get that hour for the CH?

yea cocktail hour is 7-8, reception is 8-11. i talked to the manager. he said it is what it is. i don't have much leverage since i already signed the contract although all it said was 'extra fee for adding an hour' and he said it was $500. now he's denying he said it and i'm feeling really dumb for allowing something like 'fee' just stand in a contract without having an AMOUNT!!

If your banquet manager told you it was only $500, you can hold him/her to that price. My BM quoted us $5pp for an upgrade that said $15pp on paper, and when we came back to add the upgrade, she still honored the $5.
What RH are you booking??

that is WAY over priced.. our RH only charged us $6.00/pp for the VH.. and that includes ALL the deserts, a cordial bar, our regular bar, an extra hour with whatever we want..
You should tell them that most halls have an hour CH and a four hour Rec. AND that most halls charge under $10.00/pp for the extra hour.
I wouldn't stand for that- JMHO
ETA- Just looked them up- GORGEOUS by the way- what room do you have?? but I wanted to add- if you're paying anywhere NEAR the price they have on their website I'd DEMAND the extra hour...

He may be mistaken the times. Speak with his supervisor b/c it really should be 4 hour reception after the CH. Go over his head and get the answers you need.

I know. It's completely ridiculous, especially considering how much they cost. I've talked to him about this and he's just like I never said that and this is the cost and I'm sorry. I think he's used to clients who just have all the money in the world and basically thinks I'm a peasant because I actually notice where my money is going. Oh, and there's really only one room where you can have a wedding there...I don't know if it has a name other than 'Wave Hill House.'
