My invites have a velum invite that lays over a picture of FH and I. WELL.......I attempted to print a trial invite this weekend at my brother's because he has a good printer, Nope! The velum paper crumbled in the printer and got all F'd up! So I tried Kinkos to see if they would do it, Nope! Paper is too small they said, I tried staples and No again. I went to Sir Speedy and they said they couldn't either!!! The paper isn't heavy enough! They kinda convinced me to just order invites and I think to save myself the hassle and stress I might just do it. I am sooo sad that my DIY ones won't be able to happen though, I thought they were unique.

Re: So much for my DIY invites!
what about buying different kind of paper? Did you buy everything already? Im so sorry!
Can you maybe change the setting on your printer for the thickness.....Just some suggestions
I'm sorry you are so disappointed. Maybe it's a sign that you should relax and let someone else do them! You can get something simillar to what you planned on. Good Luck!

Just a thought but drawings for construction can be put on velum. You may want to look into a blue print place. You would prob get a 24'x36' piece that has the words tiled and you would need to cut it out. But they can print on velum.

Re: So much for my DIY invites!
Is the vellum you are using the exact size that you need it to be for the invites??? If its larger you can always tape it down to a regular peice of paper and when it comes out cut it down to the size you want it to be

It is the exact size I need. There is no room to play with...the paper is 5.5 x 8.5

Re: So much for my DIY invites!
Staples sells vellum in 8.5 x 11 specifically made for inkjets & laser printers...maybe try that? I've printed on vellum with an inkjet & it worked..then i cut down the paper to the right size...there is hope!

Maybe you can adjust the design? Are you able to print the picture faded into the background with the wording on top of it?

Re: So much for my DIY invites!
when i made my invites for my e-party i was going through the same thing. Then i saw that under the paoer type option of the printer settings, there was something called spacialty paper. i picked that aption and the size that i was printing on and then it was printing fine! look at ur setting and see if ur orinter gives u any options.

That really does sux. But the idea quoted above about changing the type of paper may be an idea.

I was going to do this and my friend did this too. You can buy velum at Michaels heavy enough for a printer (home printer). Just tie a bow in the top to adhere it to the invite. Buy a scrapbook 'book' or go to library to research. If you have your heart set on it, don't give up

Re: So much for my DIY invites!
that's awful. who would have ever guessed that would happen?!?!? Maybe a private printer can do it for you? that'll kind of crunch the idea of saving money though
