That's completely ridiculous!!! I'm outraged!!!
In my school I know it's frowned upon to take the day off before a vacation, but I know they'd make an exception for a person's wedding day!!! What school is this?!?!
And by the way, who would be able to actually teach anything on their wedding day anyway?! The day after I got engaged I wasn't productive at work at all. I mean it's ONE freaking day!!! He could leave them an assignment or something and the kids will be fine. Doesn't the principal realize that?!

He has to have some personal days, no? I get three for the year and I'm non-tenured....this doesn't seem right! Unless he's already used his days up......
oh waiiit I re-read your post. Yes, they are stickler's about people taking personal days before a holiday weekend- SOOOO stupid. But supposedly my district doesn't always hold to that and you can get away with it now and then. I think he has a special situation and someone should accomodate him! It's ridiculous!!!!!

I am sure he gets personal days (I get 3 and I am non-tenured), but I know in my district it is EXTREMELY frowned upon if you take it on a Friday or Monday ESPECIALLY before or after a break. If his administrators are cool, he should try to talk with them about it, if not, I would stick it out for the day.

just want to add to that.....
my wedding is 1 week before Spring recess. I am getting married Saturday, and going back to work monday morning...we wanted to plan our honeymoon where we could leave the Fruday before vacation - but....
I'm NOT tenured, sooo.....
I ran it by my principal - HE recommended I take a personal day , and list my reason as 'religious observance' - because a wedding IS a sacrament - and he winked at me when he said that the honeymoons is part of the wedding, too....put in for that day....

Where does he work? Is it a city school? They usually are not as strict with those rules as the schools on the island.
I have NEVER heard of a principal making someone work on their wedding day! That is absurd......
You can take off before a holiday if you have a valid doctors note---Does he have a doctor that would give him a doctors note that the principal can put into his file-- so he covers his ***?
Good luck, hope you can work it out so he doesn't have to go into work and stress himself out!

That *****, I understand completely- I know in my district contractually you can't take off the day before a break- it would break the contract if you did- it depends on the principal- if he/she is tenured, they tend to be a little more lenient, but if they are not tenured then someone is probably breathing down their neck, and he won't be able to ![]()

that's crazy... i am not tenured in my district yet, but in our contract we get one personal day for a wedding and then i am taking the thursday before as another personal day.... both my principal AND the superintendent approved it... i am also getting married this upcoming february break. . . he shoudl read his contract and see what he is entitled too--- a marriage for your SELF should count as a personal day... or i would keep quiet and just call the subline in the early AM that day and not show up...
