SO Nervous!

SO Nervous!

My boss is leaving to go out of town next Friday, so that gives me only a week to resign. I just called his secretary to see his schedule, and she said 'he's here if you want to talk to him'. But, I said I'll call back since I'm worried that he might ask me over the phone when I'm planning on coming back, even if I say that I will come in to see him. What do I tell him if he asks? I just feel like I can't hide it anymore, since I knew before taht I was leaving.

I'd still MUCH rather do this over the phone, I'm so chicken!

Re: SO Nervous!

Take Jenny's advice and think of the 'after'!!!

Good Luck to you!! You can do this!

Whenever I am afraid of doing something, I recite the Little Engine that Could mantra, 'I can do this', and I actually feel better up to it!!!

Maybe under these circumstances you can tell him over the phone?
Good luck... you'll be fine

Re: SO Nervous!

I guess think of it as just another part of your career- you are resigning in a professional manner.
It is never easy but it only takes 2 minutes to say the words so it is over quick.
Just tell your boss that you need to come in to discuss your maternity leave. even if he asks you 'are you resigning niha' just say 'I would like to discuss this in person with you, if that is possible'
He isn't going to scream and yell- remember he is your boss, not your daddy
It will all be okay and over soon.

Re: SO Nervous!

Niha I would look at this as a sign! Personally? Do it over the phone now! I would call back and be like - I was going to make an appt to come in, but I understand you are going on vacation...I really wanted to meet you in person over this, but the last thing I want to do is drag it out and leave you unprepared...after much deliberation I have decided I am resigning. It's best for me and the baby right now. It's the hardest decision I have ever had to make, etc....But maybe when you get back I can come in for an afternoon and we can go over my job responsibilites and description as this will help you in finding another employee.

I think this is perfect! Make it like his schedule doesn't allow you to resign in person! (I told you I was a chicken!)

And while you are dialing, project ahead to when you are off the phone 15 minutes later, making a cup of tea, walking your little baby into the living room and flicking on Oprah knowing you won't be going back to work!!!!! They will survive!!!!
