SO PISSED! Girls I need your help with how to handle this RE: missing necklace from wedding day

Hey all

As most of you ladies know I was married July 29, 2007 in NJ at a gorgeous place and the wedding was fabulous although many things went wrong-the usual stuff mostly. However, my necklace also went missing that day. At first I didn't want to make a huge deal out of it but the DH gave it to me last year for Christmas as a pre-anniversary gift and it wasn't cheap but since I never take it off its been fine. But I removed it to put on a pearl one for the wedding and left it in our bridal suite which the managers said we had for the whoel day and which was supposed to be LOCKED. Yet mid reception the maitre D comes down and tells me he's moved our things and I'm like WHAT! It was supposed to be locked or we would have gone up there ourselves and taken it all to the car. But he assured us it was in a safe place. It all ende dup in an unlocked CLOSET.

So Im still trying not to make a fuss. I just want the necklace back. But suppsoedly the maitre D only worked weeknds and they couldn't call him (YEA RIGHT) so I ahd to wait nearly a week. I finalyl call because it was ridiculous and had to call EVERY DAY twice a day until finally the owner whow as suppsoed to return it IMMEDITAELY as he promised me, picks up after keeping me on hold for 1/2 hour.

First, he is downright dismissive and rude even going so far as to say yes he knew I called but he didn't know if I found the necklace or anything so he didn't call me back. WHAT? ON WHAT planet does that make sense?! If I had it in my possession would I have called you 20 times in a day?!!!

Then he OUTRIGHT LIED to me! He said he talked to my husband about letting him see surveillance tapes which was an outright fabrication because when I told hubby, he was like W T F NO ONE spoke to me. Also the small suite HAS NO tapes because you get dressed in there. So Im REALLY disappointed. I mean crap he was just on VH1 weddings so you would think he wouldn't wnat this kidn of negative publicity. Especially because women here have asked me about the place and even after they initially misplaced the necklace I was willing to give them more business. But now? Begrudging me for THEIR mistake forr a few hundred dollars when I was willing to send thousands of dollars their way? They rushed us out of that room that morning and were the last people in and THEY moved our stuf fso they are lible.

I am REALLY unhappy. Mind you I have pictures of where the necklace was thanks to the photographer and the original bill and he is stll tryign to jerk us around despite them being the last people in there. Not even trying to hide the fact he knows its their mistake. I said I would file a police report and he's like 'No you can't.' OH YES I CAN! He said he'd do it and submit it to his insurance I'm like yea right. Just like he called me back. I know it will get 'lost' in paperwork but I don't know whether to try that and then go to small claims court or what.

I don't know how to handle this ladies aside from warning everyone that their place is gorgeous but that their customer service SUX. If there are any lawyers out there lol I need you! Suggestions please.

TIA.

We are so sorry to hear about this. I would bring this matter to the BBB, Shame on You, or even Judge Judy. This should of never happen. The Bridal Suite is to keep your things in. If they needed to move your things they should of spoken with you first so you could make sure where all of your things were being moved to included your very special necklace. This situation needs to be taken care of.

I am an attorney, so let me see if I can help...

If the necklace is worth less than 5K, you will have to go to small claims court. I would also threaten to take this to all of the local papers...also, you might want to find out who insures the place, you might be able to collect from them, but prob not...however, you need a police report. Definitely file the police report and contact the vendor's insurance immediately.

What stinks unless you saw the maitre D take it or if you have proof beyond circumstantial, you are hard pressed to file charges (i know this because I actually get kids off for things like this )

However, I would send a letter to the hall...you want a paper trail, and tell him that you spoke to a lawyer. Scare the crap out of them...should work..FM me if I can be of more help!

File the police report. You lost your necklace--sorry, BTW, the fact that it wasn't terribly valuable monetarily isn't the point, you loved it--so it's up to you to file the report. They won't do it. They don't want the bad publicity. Well, I think they deserve it. I've heard too many brides around here talk about how their bridal suites were supposed to be locked and then they found out they weren't when things went missing.

I doubt you'll get your necklace back, but hopefully they'll cough up the money to replace it with something similar, even though what you want is YOUR necklace.

And sorry that this had to tarnish your wedding day, even in a small way.

Jenn, this f*ing sucksss! Seriously, send them a certified letter stating that you spoke to so-and-so on x, y, and z dates regarding the necklace that was stolen or lost when THEY moved your belongings out of the bridal suite which you were told would be locked, without your permission - only to find out that they placed your belongings in an unlocked CLOSET. Tell them that since the matter has not been resolved, you are contacting an attorney to try to help you resolve this matter and have filed a police report. Tell them that you would like for them to replace the cost of the necklace, per the original receipt.

Obviously, I'm not a lawyer so this is just my opinion and what I'd do. A $500 necklace is NOT CHEAP and it has so much sentimental value!!! They are literally tainting your wedding experience because of this and if they just tried to work with you, it would surely make you feel a million times better.

I am not a lawyer but I agree with the other ladies and their suggestions - A paper trail is so important. And no RH wants bad press so that could be the key to getting the necklace back or a monetary payment.

I hope everything works out for you. The value of that necklace for you is priceless because it is a gift for your DH.
