Im so upset right now. I know financially Im in no place to be even be thinking about a wedding....Im taking out a personal loan and hope to be able to pay it back afterwards. I know that sounds really shallow, relying on gifts, but I just dont know what else to do. Im not sure if I've mentioned this already but I have been with my FH for 10 years! Engaged for 19 months. We both work so hard and for whatever reason things just dont go our way and we havent been able to save Please be honest, Am I being ridiculous?

Re: So sad
don't feel be upset I know plenty of brides & grooms who've had to take out loans to pay for weddings..my FH and I are both recently unemployed(both shocked) we know we CAN NOT afford this but we can't back out we would loose thosusands in deposits we may end up getting a loan ourselves...

A friend of mine had to do that. It has crossed my mind a few times.

Re: So sad
You get to do this ONCE if you are lucky. Be smart, scale it down and make smart choices. Just be careful, but yes, if I had to, I would have done what I needed to to have my wedding. It was the best day of my life.

Re: So sad
We're taking out a loan for ours- it's a bit risky sure. But weighing the options (in our case) Take out a loan which we can payoff relatively easily over time- or -dip into savings which would totally screw us if there is an emergency. You're only on this ball of mud once. If you're lucky (which most of us on this board are)- you'll find the love of your life and soul mate. Celebrate!

Re: So sad
Don't feel sad. There are just a few alternatives to paying for a wedding and you are chosing one of those alternatives. Some people take on another job, some people use credit, some people take out personal loans, some people borrow from their parents, others drain their savings.........everyone's situation is different. Search the chats on this website, everyone struggles whith the burden of having to pay for their own wedding, or even pay for a portion of it. Hang in there. All that matters is that you are marrying the love of your life and are going to be happy for the rest of your life

Re: So sad
you are not alone, with the high price of weddings, loans are much more common than you think! We are saving like crazy but will have a little extra cash from our house on the side to help us pay in the end.

Re: So sad
I know a few brides who have done that. I dont think there is anything wrong with doing that...if it is something that you are willing to do and know you are responsible enough to pay it back why not? Dont feel sad, weddings are a huge financial burden and sometimes your dreams out weight what you can physically save over time. It seems like everytime we put a large chunk of chane away something happens and its gone
