So SAD!
FH & I are off to a wake tonight ... his g-dmother's son passed away. He was only 18 years old!!!!!
It was all over the news, here's the article from Newsday:
A college freshman from Nassau County died at Iona College after suffering a head injury, apparently in a fall from a bunk bed, officials said.
A*** L****, 18, of Stewart Manor, was discovered by one of his three roommates, unconscious and not breathing, on the floor of their dorm room Wednesday morning, according to New Rochelle police. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Officials said his hemophilia, a genetic disorder that hinders blood from clotting, and alcohol consumption the night before may have contributed to his death.
S**** L**** said her son was a 2006 graduate of Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park and lived nearly his entire life in the area. 'He was a wonderful, loving child. He was my little A***,' she said. 'I loved being his mother for 18 years.'
P****** L****, 21, said he and his brother both suffered from hemophilia and that they had long been campers and counselors at a camp for children with critical diseases.
'A*** was great with kids, such a willingness to listen,' P****** said. 'He was a loving, fun-loving, story-telling guy.'
P******, 21, a student of acting at Boston University, said A*** loved writing and had talked of becoming a journalist. 'He liked things that were real, but he also had a flair for the dramatic word,' he said.
On Wednesday evening, about 600 friends and faculty gathered for a memorial service for L**** on campus, a school spokeswoman said.
'It's a very close-knit campus ... and it's nice to see how much people reach out to each other,' Cecilia Donohoe said. 'This is a Catholic institution and our faith is something we really fall back on at these times.'
The Westchester County medical examiner, Dr. Louis Roh, said Thursday that L**** died from a single impact on the left rear of his head, which caused bleeding in the brain. Roh said hemophilia was a likely contributor to his death.
S**** L****, a hospital nurse, said her son took medication for the condition and knew the risks of the disease. 'For someone with hemophilia, a head injury is your worst nightmare, ... but he'd never had anything really life-threatening before,' she said.
New Rochelle Police Lt. Christopher Hearle said L****'s injuries were consistent with a fall but that police were still determining exactly how L**** got hurt.
