So Upset

So Upset

Just had my taxes done. Last year I got back over $1000 and I was hoping to get the same this year. Well Surprise, I have to pay this year. I though getting paid more would mean that I'd get more back.

I'm about to cry because I was going to give that money to the photo/videographer. Now I have no idea where I'm going to get the money.

That sux......sorry to hear that. I'm counting on my return too and I would feel the same way if I had to pay back. Hopefully its not a large amount you have to pay back.

I'm sorry that you were not aware of the higher tax brackets. It really does suck. I've been in the 33% tax bracket for a couple of years and just think, there is a 35% tax bracket too. And this is just federal taxes. You have to account for NY state taxes and NYC taxes too.

If you used H&R Block I hear they will recheck your filing to make sure nothing was missed. I have never used them though.

You can write off all sorts of little things including job search expenses (whether of not you got a new job), job related entertainment expenses (entertaining clients) and don't forget medical expenses like office visits, insurance premium and prescriptions --including birth control too.

Put money into an IRA before 4/15/05 and that can lower your tax bill too.

Every deduction will reduce your Adjusted Gross and maybe put you in a different tax bracket. The goal is to get your taxable income to even $1 less than your bracket and into the lower bracket. You will definitely get a refund that way since you paid into based on, for example, the 33% bracket but will get a refund based on the 28% bracket.

Hope this helps.

ETA - If you work from home you can write off your home office expenses (computer, cable modem expenses, printer, paper, toner, software used for work etc.)

Oh that's too bad. I know what you mean, I'm expecting the same back, but who knows, I might get screwed also. Don't worry, everything for the wedding will fall into place, just try to put aside a little each paycheck - I know, easier said than done. Feel better my date twin!!!

She's correct. My brother has a friend who is a model... he gets to write off facials, massages, manicures, pedicures. And he's a gorgeous guy who doesn't need them... there is no justice in this world

Hmmm. I'm not sure about that one. I know you can write off student loan interest is your AGI is below a certain amount. Call H & R block or maybe try your school. They may have free tax advisors for students.

Duh, President Bush has lowered taxes you moron. So upset should go to her hr department at work and change the way she has taxes taken out. She incorrectly filled out paperwork.
