So upset and confused...

So upset and confused...

I've been working really hard for the past couple of months to lose some weight. When I went in for my first fitting last month, the top of my dress was a little loose, so the seamstress took it in. Today was my second fitting and I must have lost a few more lbs because the top was a bit loose again. I was so happy! It's two weeks to my wedding so I was hoping to lose some more weigh b/c I am really depressed about the way I look. So the seamstress then tells me that I shouldn't lose any more b/c she can't keep taking the dress in. She said the material could be compromised. So I told her not to take the dress in yet, to wait for my third fitting but she said she has to take it in now b/c she will be on vacation the week before my wedding. My mom then chimes in and tells me that I better not try to lose any more because I will ruin the dress. Has anyone ever heard that a dress can't be taken in more than two times? What should I do? Should I still try to lose some weight? Sorry so long...I've just been depressed about it all day.

It's not that it can't be taken in more than two times, it's just that all of the work she does to take it in is all pointless if it needs to be taken in again! Also, if it has to be taken in more than 2 dress sizes, the shape of the dress is compromised. Don't be sad sweetie! I know we all want to look our absolute best in our dress, but honestly- you do not need to lose any more weight!! I just took a look at your pics and you look great!! You are not overweight at all!! You are going to be a stunning bride!

i think its all about the time she has to do it in, and the type of dress you have. you might have a gown that if taken in too much, but make a different in how it looks on you. trust your seamstress, she does this a million times. my dress was taken in about 4 times, but that was something that the dress could handle without looking weird on me.

don't be depressed about it--i'm sure you will look just gorgeous on your big day. but if the seamstress is telling you NOT to lose anymore weight---i would listen to her. and i'm sure you do not want to hear this, but a lot of seamstresses recommend that brides eat a bowl of ice cream several nites in a row before the wedding--cause that last week you are bound to lose anywhere from 5-10 lbs from sheer wedding planning stress alone! (i know i did....and then of course i gained it back and then some!)

you will look great no matter what!

I agree, its not that it cant be taken in more then 2 times, its just the shape of the dress will change the more its taken in. My dress was taken out and from there on it was a fiasco to get the dress to look like it was supposed to originally.
I would listen to the seamstress

When I went to order my dress, I told the seamstress about how much weight I lost and how much more I would like to lose and she told me the same thing.

She said if we were to order my dress at the size I was and I lost 25-40lbs that the entire shape and style of the dress would change. She said they can only take it in about a size to a size and a half safely.

You are going to look beautiful, don't be depressed!!

ETA...just looked at you album and your dress is GORGEOUS and looks AMAZING on you!! You are going to be a gorgeous bride!!

Well, why do you need to have so many fittings? Lose all of the weight you want and go back for one final fitting a week before the wedding. It is her job to make that dress fit you - no matter how much you lose and I don't think it is fair for her to tell you to stop losing weight.

Ya just gotta trust her. Many brides lose weight in that last week b/c of stress. Just try to maintain for now if you're terribly worried about it, and then if you want to keep losing after the wedding go ahead. I know my dress was already 2 sizes to big on top (the sample was too big as it was), and I've lost weight, but it's the seamstress' job to make it work. It's their own fault for making totally unrealistic size charts that put people between sizes, then scaring them into ordering up. We have other things to worry about (although I've got hamburgers in the freezer just in case).

You could try to tone up without losing weight. Work on Legs or arms, something that won't require the dress to be taken in. I saw your pics of you in the dress and you're almost as thin as that model! You don't need to loose anymore. Look at a pic of yourself before you starting working out and then look at the pic of you in the dress. I guarantee its going to make you feel better!

Re: So upset and confused...

Its true... I lost a lot of weight & my dress looked funky after they took it in too much. The whole balance of the dress wasn't right. I wound up buying another dress 2 weeks before the wedding.

ETA!!!!!
HOLY SH!T - Just looked at your photos - I HAD THE SAME DRESS!!!! The waist can be taken in very well. My waist looked TINY BUT MAKE SURE if they are taking in the top that they also take fabric off the bottom!!! This is what went wrong for me. They took the top in so much that the bottom wound up looking like a potato sack. There was too much fabric on the sides of the dress & it looked frumpy. Also, if they take in the top too much, they will need to remove the lace & bead applique on the front & resew it on. It gets to be a mess. Just go easy.

You look AWESOME in the dress & honestly, in the grand scheme of things, no one is going to notice if you lose another 5 pounds. I wouldn't diet & go crazy with 2 weeks to go. You'll stress yourself out. And then you'll have a new problem - pimples. Just realx & enjoy this time. You look great!
