So upset over stupid family member

After my grandmother's death, my Mom became estranged from her siblings, due in large part to my aunt's manipulation. My Mom used to be close with the older of her two brothers, so after much thought, decided to invite him to the wedding. I emailed him, providing my phone number and asking for his mailing address to sent the invitation, making sure to add the title of 'Uncle' and closing it 'With Love.'

I received his response today which stated in a matter-of-fact fashion that he will be unable to attend due to confirmed trip plans. He addressed the email with his name, no 'Uncle' or 'Love' anywhere in the email. I couldn't stop crying for close to an hour, and when I called my mother to let her know what happened, she grew even more hysterical than me. I am still in shock with how cold and distant the email sounded, and I think it would have been better off had he never responded!

ppl can be so hurtful! i am sorry that he had such a reaction; their conflict shouldnt impact the way he treats you. at the end of the day, though, at least you did the right thing and acted like the bigger person by extending the invite! his loss!!!

I'm so sorry that your horrible aunt managed to ruin things for you and your mom. Your uncle should be mature enough to think for himself, but apparently that isn't the case. It's his loss. At least you did the right thing.

That really stinks. Like the above post said, you def did the right thing andyou def are thebetter person. At least youwon't have any 'what if' after thoughts and you extended yourself. There is nothing more you could have done and at this point, it's his loss.

Dealing with family can suck. Especially when you are so excited for you wedding and want to share it with everyone.
