So we haven't had a vent/pet peeve thread in awhile

Original post by marymoon

Let's try to keep it non-LIW related please!

I am really annoyed lately when people ask you a question the first time like they've already asked you 5 times..Do you know what i mean? I mean at least give me a chance to answer to or do what you want before you get testy with me!!!!!!!!

I'm also really annoyed about FH's job. They call him at ALL hours of the night. He has rotating night and weekend duty (and I have to deal with sleeping next to him with his beeper on), but that doens't even MATTER because they call him even when he's NOT on duty and make him work to fix whatever whether it's a saturday or 2am or what. last night he was supposed to come over, but then someone form the affiliate in texas called him at home with a probem..and I said 'what if you were already at my house' and he said 'they would have yelled at me for being unreachable' I had NO IDEA he was supposed to be on call 24/7. I HATE that. it really makes me SICK..I don't know why, but to does. I feel like they can invade our life at any moment, and he has no time when he's not working> Isn't being there 12+ hour a day good enough?

I agree with don and shorty. Elederly or pregnany, definitely, I always get up for pg women or women or men who are elderly.

I don't think its fair to say that a woman is probably doing more at home than a man. It may be true, but if you want to go that route, you can say that the woman should stand because the man probably did more at work that day!

I mean, I have a partial disability, but people can't see that, and I'm sure they'd get up if they knew. Maybe men have an unseen disability, I don't think being on your period really qualifies you for anything other than a trip to the drug store and a few advil.

Despite all that i really LOVE it when men give up their seats for me on the train. I think it's so sweet and I really enjoy feeling that chivalry and respect. But you have to understand that often the other side of it is chauvinism and inequality. While I would love to have it all, we just can't.and I prefer equality...

But I do love it when men hod doors open, gie up their seats, etc

oh say it already Don. It's nothin new, I'm sure.

ok, here's my take on the whole men giving up their seat for women thing

pregnant woman or elderly? -- absolutely, without hesitation

That said, all i've been hearing is equality for women, women's lib, equal pay, equal respect, etc etc.

Now, I am all for that, BUT equality is equality. There is no middle ground. You can't say 'I want to be equally respected and treated like men are' and then turn around and say, 'this guy should have given up a seat for me because i am a woman.'

i don't buy that -- if the bus is crowded when i get on, i stand.

if a woman gets on, and i am sitting, she stands. It's all fair and equal.

I do agree with the leg spreading thing.

Thats what I was waitin for.

I actually feel the same way. Old or preggo, guys gotta MOVE, and fast. Other women? I don't see the big deal. Our legs work as well as yours.

But some of us wear heels. . .

I agree with you though- if someone offers me a seat I either think ' waht are you trying to prove?' or ' do I look pregnant in this outfit?'

the women's lib movement killed all the gentlemen -- sorry

not true.

There are plenty of door-holders, cab-sharers, and elevator-holders out there.

oh door holding is something else though

that should be done for everyone

see i am guilty of leg spreading because i am a big person and i have big legs.

But, if someone is getting on, i put them together to make room. If I am sure there is no one next to me, I spread em

My DH is big and does the same thing, I'm not talking about that .. I'm talking about not even trying to make room for another passenger - just being rude and purposely keeping them spread when they don't need to. I see a lot of younger disrespectful men doing this, not so much the working class men.

This is true. There are some wonderful guys who work in my building. They are always holding the doors and the elevators. I do the same for them..it's just common courtesy.

that is what I am trying to say. It is a nice, noble, easy thing for a man to do for a woman. Should it be a law? of course not. Don-if there is 1 seat on the bus and it is you and boosh, who would get the seat? Exactly..so why make another wife stand just because she is not yours?

That's a nice outlook.

There are guys like that. FH offered to carry sharon's mixer at WOTY. I thought that was so cute..and just you know, the right thing to do.

He sleeps with his beeper on?
My husband has rotating night & weekend duty as well, but he keeps the beeper on the nightstand.

He won't wake up with it on the nightstand...he's a very heavy sleeper..so he;s only gonna wake up if it;'s vibrating while clipped to his boxers

I 100 % agree.

I work in a building where 98% of the men will not step on/off the elevator until the women step out first. It's very nice and respectful.
As for holding doors, letting someone on in front of you, etc ... we dhould all be doing that for everyone we meet. the world would be a much nicer place.

when it comes to equality, there is no middle road

the door holding and carrying stuff is common courtesy applied to everyone.

Now, if I got on with a woman at the same time, I'd let her take the seat.

But, if I'm already sitting, I'm not getting up

My pet peeves: People that point with their middle finger. People that say 'idear' instead of 'idea'. People that sit right next to you in a completely empty movie theater.

I think that's more than fair. I don't expect men to get up for me..when they do I'm like 'WOW'... but I think if we're both going for the seat, he should let the lady take it. I get kind of taken aback when men kind of race me for a seat...
