I know it's probably hard but can someone try to describe it? I suppose that once they are really strong you won't have to ask but what did they feel like at the very beginning early stages of labor? Did you 'just know' they were contractions? I imagine them as feeling like really strong menstrual cramps... is that close?

Yeah that's pretty close, the worst menstrual cramps at five minutes apart. It was so bad for me that I started shaking really bad and couldn't stop until I got the epidural.

I had false labor contractions about 2 weeks ago, which were very sever menstural-like cramps. My doctor said it will feel like that, but will usually start in your back and move around to the front... Or if your having back labor it will move the opposite, start in the front and move around to your back.

Mine felt like really bad menstrual cramps and I felt like I had to poop really bad. To the point where it felt like I was going to accidentally poop on myself! Although I didn't thank god.

Yes - really bad menstrual cramps, they seem to come to a high peak(of pain) and then release. Like a wave developing in the ocean and crashing - thats how I describe it.

LOL In labor when they were really CLOSE, I felt the same way right before one came, I felt like I Had to poop and then I knew another one was coming!

That's exactly how I felt too. I felt that more then the menstrual cramps.
I know everyone says it but you'll know when they're here. There's no doubt.

Oh yes, the WORST menstrual cramps! Were talking fetal position cramps, but you cant get in that position b/c your belly is too big LOL
I have to say that after I had my epi - I was smiles even through delivery. I dont think I would have made it without :)

wanted to add - beforehand when I had Braxton Hicks - I thought that was what they were going to be like... I was so wrong.. like the other girls said - You will know when its really time!
BTW - some people do ache in their back... I didnt at all. It was right in my belly the WHOLE time...

I was induced so they came on strong and fast! Best way to describe is like the worst menstrual cramps you can imagine or like the feeling you get when you have to take a really bad poop and it just comes over you like a wave. Dont worry you will know when you are having them!
