I don't think that they are completely necessary. We are making them just so that one of my nephews will not feel left out of the wedding and can distribute them. You also could just print out something simple that doesn't require a lot of assembling..

you could go to Michael's or AC More.. or even Staples and buy a pack that just requires quick print and or assembly.. thats what i did... i have so many other DIY projects that i wanted to keep my programs simple.
or you could even just get nice cardstock... and do a simple folded program.. so u dont have to do anything but print on 8 X 10 and fold.
I don't think programs are totally necessary... i wasn't gonna do them.. but i thought it would be nice to have the ceremony printed out to put in a scrapbook.
