Social Security PLEASE HELP!! (x-post)

Sorry for crashing!! I need to get a new SS card ASAP because I lost mine and need it RIGHT AWAY! I am planning on filing out the application ahead of time and going to the SS office tomorrow during my lunch break. I just have a few questions.

1- What do I need to bring with me to get a new SS card (is a passport and driver's license sufficient?? I lost my birth certificate also )

2- Will I get my new card on the same day I visit the SS office, or will it be mailed to me? If it's mailed, how long does it typically take to mail?

3- If the Melville office takes too long and I need to return to work, I am going to go to the Jamaica office after work (they are open until 7pm on Wednesdays). Can I go to a Queens SS office even though I live in Nassau???

4- Does anyone know how long the typical wait time at the Melville office is?

Sorry for all of the questions. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you girlies!

I found this on the website

We can accept only certain documents as proof of U.S. citizenship. These include a U.S. birth certificate, U.S. consular report of birth, U.S. passport, Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship.

We can accept only certain documents as proof of identity. An acceptable document must be current (not expired) and show your name, identifying information (date of birth or age) and preferably a recent photograph. For example, as proof of identity Social Security must see your:

U.S. driver’s license;
State-issued nondriver identification card; or
U.S. passport.

Once we have verified all your documents and processed your Application for a Social Security Card (SS-5), it takes approximately 10 to 14 days to receive your replacement Social Security card

I dont anything aboutthe melville office but I think you can go anywhere. SS is government and not local- Just like DMV

You should be fine with your passport and driver's license. I think I went last time with my passport and birth certificate, but you should still be good without it! However, I don't think you'll be able to do it on your lunch break. I've never been to the Melville office, but I did go to the Jamaica office around lunch time on Friday and waited for hoooouuurrsss! Maybe it's only because the Jamaica office is the only one in Queens where you can do a name change. Every time I've ever had to get a replacement SS card (which has been many a time!) it took about 2 weeks. HTH!
