Hey the second house is the same model both of my parents grew up in. Actually a few blocks away on Flower Lane. My grandparents would die if they knew how much those houses are going for -- both sets bought new in the 1950s!

Compared to Nassau County lots (most are 50 x 100) the properties are pretty large.

We aren't looking but those are good prices and I can't believe how low the taxes are.

You can still get a pretty decent deal in Centereach. In a few years there wont be any homes at this price anymore (IMO). I like the area (have family there) a lot. I would look there if we didnt have a house already.

Those are great houses in our price range. But DHs job is civil service, and he must live in nassau co. to work in nassau co. what a pain!!! ![]()

Wow - I really love the first house - and the option of renting out that apartment is very appealing!!
Crazy how much cheaper the home price and taxes are when compared to Nassau though! Homes that size are almost 100K more with LESS land around here...![]()
It woudl be nice to live in Suffolk Co, but I would hate commuting any farther to work than I already am. Right now I have about an hour and a half commute door to door. If we moved further east - I would not want to work in the city anymore

That doesn't apply to all of Suffolk...western Suffolk is definitely on par with Nassau - from what I've seen at least. I guess the only saving grace is *slightly* more property...

No, you aren't wrong...
The schools are not the greatest but they are not the worst either. I would say they are about average. If you are looking for a fantastic school district then Centereach is not for you.
For me, this was the best SD we could afford on LI.. and I know there are others in the same boat as me.
