Some Just Married Advice

Original post by Kris516

Hi Girls!

Just wanted to pop in and give some advice from a newlywed...

When you look for your dress, ask in advance - how does this bustle? Make them show it to you...ask how it stays up. Do you like it? Is it comfortable?

Is the dress itself comfortable? You'll be in it all day. Is it heavy? Can you move in it? Sit in it?

Lie to the Bridal Salon about your wedding date. They'll tell you they can do alterations overnight, and trust me, they can - but you don't need that kind of stress. Let them think your wedding is 1-2 weeks earlier - especially if you're getting married in peak season (June Brides - I was contending with other Brides, BMs, Proms and Sweet 16s - alteration appts became impossible to make).

Don't sweat the small stuff. The day goes by rather fast, and I had to remind myself to notice the details...

Do remind yourself to note the details and what is happening as the day progresses - getting ready, pics, ceremony, etc. The times I took to stop and note are the most vivid memories I have of the day.

Do invest in a videographer. The reception is a bit of a blur, and I can't wait to relive it through DVD!

Don't be afraid to be 'pushy' with vendors - insist on the last minute appts, do submit must take lists and must play lists - it'll ease your mind and remind your vendors again what your vision is.

Do spend time on the personal touches and DIY stuff if you want it. In the end, it made my wedding stand out, and my guests did appreciate it.

It will be one of the most amazing days of your life regardless of the little bumps along the way.

Best of Luck and Happy Planning!

Thanks for the advice. Still kicking myself that I didn't tell my bridal salon an earlier date instead of my actual date......
