Some observances from a wedding this past Saturday
Attending a wedding in CT this past weekend really helped put some things in perspective that I had been stressing over. Just wanted to share in case anyone else is feeling overwhelmed with the 'details'.
-First off...the programs. They were very pretty however something that isn't a necessity. As I left the church, I could see most of the guests left theirs on the pew. I didn't even look much at the program and had they not had them, it wouldn't have mattered.
-There were no favors. I didn't realize this until this morning, lol. While I am doing a small favor of truffles, for anyone worrying about favors...don't. We had a wonderful time and the people/food/company was just so nice it went completely unnoticed.
-I realized that I do not want to do the garter removal. No desire to do it. I THINK I'll do a bouquet toss but just because the girls look forward to it. I just felt badly for the awkward guy putting a garter on this girl who looked uncomfortable. I know its traditional but its not for me.
-If you are doing a DJ, make sure he or she doesn't add their own comments through every song. The DJ played everything the couple wanted AND people danced all night...but he was a 55 year old guy who would interject comments through songs like 'yes baby, dip it low and bring it up slow, that is what i'm talking about!!' It was funny b/c I found it funny and people were laughing but i kept seeing the bride roll her eyes at certain things and i think she was getting embarrased. Just something to think about if you don't want commentary from the dj!
-last but not least....The bride and groom went to their entire cocktail hour. They had pics between church and reception, so they were able to eat, mingle and relax before the reception started. They got to talk to family and friends during the hour so that when the reception time came, they did less talking and more dancing/being together. They looked so happy, relaxed and totally stress free. It may have been their personalities to be that way but I have NEVER seen a bride more calm and together. She didn't have a coordinator and she didn't go nuts with the little 'details' but it was one of the nicest weddings I've ever been to.
Hope this helps anyone who is stressing out.
ps-her flowers were a low bowl of mixed pinks/greens of all diff types (calla lilies, roses, hydrangea etc..) surrounded by 4 votives....looked GORGEOUS!!
