some parents **** rant

I just need to vent about this for a 2nd. I have been working with children since I was 16. I am currently a teacher at a daycare center and I cant stand parents more and more. A lot of older adults always gave me dirty looks because I am a young mother and I look younger then I am. Well i can tell you that as a mother at 19 I am 1000000times better then half these parents in their 40's. I know people now a days have to work and its so sad that these little kids are in daycare feom 6:45am-6:45pm. There are 6 week olds in for that long they eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at daycare. You can tell teh parents who have no choice but there are parents who have days off and leave there kids at daycare all day. They leave them in sick throwing up and fevers b.c they can't be bothered. Today a 1 year old boy had 103.4 fever and his parents made all excuses not to pick him up. A 18month old had an asthma attack so bad and his parents took their sweet *** time picking him up he had to be hooked up to a breathing machine or somethng and was out for days. If you don't want to love and nuture your kids you shouldnt have them. If you have off you should be with your kids not lounging around alone. These babies have looong days and a nice break would be nice for them. I get called mommy by kids who aren't mine and I love and kiss them and fix their booboos and rock them when they feel sick and when their parents come to pick them up they scream for me. I would die if my kids ever did that to me. Most parents **** at being parents. There are the rare few though who Rush to get their kids right after they get out of work and when they are sick pick them up quickly. Those are the parents I respect. I want to punch the others really bad sometimes lol. ok Sorry vent over!!!

Those parents are lucky they have someone as nice as you. I wont help day cares out anymore after seeing what parents do, because it breaks my heart, and knowing my future step daughter has one of those parents as her legal custodial parent hurts even more. ***** that NYS favors the mother over everyone else...because some people should need a lisence to reproduce.

I know what you mean.

And I don't know which is worse, cause I see parents from the perspective while they're WITH their kids... letting climb in a out of shopping carts while they'r enot paying attention, one two year old tipped the cart over as I lunged to catch her, I didnt make it in time and she hit her head on the floor cause MOm was an effing *******.
they let them wander all over the place without watching them and the best is when they come into the store all bundled up and the kid's in a friggin tshirt. I can't.

I completely agree with you 100%!!! It's really sad! It's unfortunate that this happens. I really don't get it. I understand people work and need to make a living, but I just feel people these days are caring less and less about the well-being of their kids!!!

Ughhhh I hate that when the parents are in winter jackets and the kids are in tshirts and a sweathshirt. It's stupidity.

I know what you mean. I am a social worker and some of the things I see parents doing completely sickens me. I once had a client come to my office high off his *** on crack with his 9 month old niece in the stroller. When I asked him who left the child with him while he was high he said he woke up that morning and everyone had gone out and the baby was just in the house. So he bought her along. When I called CPS I was told that just because he was high does not mean he is neglectful of the child. SERIOUSLY???? But what about the parents? what parent leaves their child in the house with an ex-con who is high on crack???

OMG you have finally said what I have always thought for YEARS!!

I worked in the daycare field for 5 years as a lead teacher of an Infant room, and these poor innocent NEWBORNS are shipped off to a center that sometimes is under staffed, over crowded and not getting the one on one time that they should be getting. Left in the cribs, bouncers, screaming and crying bc they want to be held and cuddled with, yet you have 8 other children who need to be changed, fed, played with, rocked to sleep, and only 2 staff members who are driving themselves crazy trying to take care of everyone. Some parent's don't give us enough credit for all we are doing. And CENTERS DON'T PAY US ENOUGH FOR ALL THE WORK WE ARE DOING. $9 dollars an hour IF YOUR LUCKY! It was never about the money for me when I worked in the centers, it was the fact that I know the children who are in my care will receive my 100% attention, and I will care for them the best I can.

What's worse, is that we see their first smiles, their first crawls, first steps and can't say anything to the parents bc 'that would offend them'.

ugh! first of all. screw those people that give you looks for being a young mother! You really weren't that young when you had your child and it's none of their business anyway! It's kind of cool your child will have a young mom growing up. My mom was 23 when she had me. It was cool having parents that were into playing w me and doing things.

And I hate people in general. My FH once ran out into the street and grabbed a kid that no one was watching in a store we were in. I almost called 911 on them but refrained.

My mom ran a pre-school for almost 15 years before it had to close down (she liked to keep her numbers down for safety- but that doesnt pay the bills), and when I would help her I was so impressed with the parents coming to pick up their kids and such. WELL, now she works at a public daycare center that is everything you mentioned. She is so miserable there and wants to hold all the babies, but there are too many. My FMIL expects me to stay at home with the children once they are born, and though I plan on it when they are itty-bitty, the plan FH and I have always said was that he would work from home if possible to stay with the kids (upon which they freaked out bc the MAN should not be left with his children). I am so worried if we both work they kids will be in centers like that!

I'm thinking Im going to have to go New Yorker- hire an au pare.

It's tough to see that! And it unfortunately doesn't get better. I work with middle school kids and it makes me sad to see some of their situations. For some of them they are the biggest trouble causers and as I have come to find out more about their family life have found out that I'm one of the few adult figures in their life that actually enforces rules.

It makes me really sad, and scares me, to see some of these kids who are essentially having to be adults because there are non in their home lives.

At least there are some happy stories...one kid in particular is no longer living with their biological parents, but is probably one of the most amazing kids ever...smart, funny, motivated, well liked, and a fantastic friend.

Re: some parents **** rant

I so understand what you are saying. I was a mom at 19 and got the same looks and i could care less.

My son who is 2 goes to daycare. He gets dropped off between 9-10 and he is picked up by 6. I hate the fact that he is there that long and i pick him up early any time i can. I do believe some parents use daycare as a time to get rid of thier kids but i also believe that some parents may need a break. So if they are off from work they may still send thier kids to daycare for a few hours to get things done or just breath for a minute.

I work in the field of social service and almost brought one of my students 18 month old daughter home with me last weekend because she said she could care for her anymore. She couldnt deal with the crying and the trips to daycare. I felt so bad for the little girl. I was able to call a family memeber to come get her but that meeting took so much out of me i had. I left work right after.
