FH's father passed away last week. he was a great man and we were all saddened by the loss. He was still young (62) and while we knew his health was failing, we really though he would be around for a few more years.
The wake went relatively well. Most people were so nice and we shared lots of stories about the good times and what a great person he was.
But some people - OMG and W T F. They were just so inconsiderate.
Someone said to me 'Oh, I bet you regret not getting married sooner.' And the same person said to FH's sisters (who are both expecting) 'So I assume you are going to name the babies 'John' now'. And when they said no they were met with 'well I think you should'.
The NERVE of some people. FH and I knew his dad was in failing health since we got engaged in summer '07 and I asked him if he wanted to get married in summer '08 because we didn't know what would happen. And we decided his dad would always be with us, either in person or in spirit and we did not want to rush into a marriage. It is not what his dad would have wanted. And his sisters already chose the names for their babies, and FH's dad liked them.
I just don't know what goes through some people's heads. Yeah, we see you twice a year and you send a Chrismas card once a year and now suddenly you have the right to make judgement calls on how our family does things.
FH said he is no longer inviting this person to the wedding because he was so insulted at their attitude. I asked him not to make any rash decisions because this is an emotional time.
but really - the nerve of people!

its amazing how insensitive people can be...there are some things that you just don't say to people...try to ignore those people...they aren't worth it!

First I am so sorry for you loss, my condolences are with you and your FH's family...
I've learned some people have no filter they say whatever comes to mind. It isn't right but it happends. Try to remember those who are there for you and your FH. Those who wipped tears and lend you a shoulder to cry on. Those are the people that matter. Healing is tough and people like the person you are discribing don't make it any easier so try and surround yourself with kinder, more caring people. I am sorry that happend to you and want you to know your family is in my prayers

Re: Some people....
Yeah, some people just don't have any self censorship and just say whatever pops into their head.
He died because of a liver problem. It was not from drinking and not from a contracted disease. They think he was exposed to chemicals on the job site. People were asking all these inappropriate questions about if he had hepatitis and was his mom infected? Or if he was an alcoholic.
And I know they mean well, but alot of people were asking about money and if Nick's mom had to sell the house or if we were going to move in with her.
It just seems like some of these things are so private and I cannot believe that such casual acquaintances would be asking.

Re: Some people....
So sorry for your loss.... My thoughts are with you and your family. I really do not understand what people are thinking. How insensitive and rude. Its really extreme too considering as we age we generally only see family and friends like this at weddings and funerals. Why would they want to make it a bad experience?
