Some wedding questions?

Some wedding questions?

I am so confused. My FH and i want to write our own vows. The problem is our pastor told us to keep it short and around a paragraph long. My FH and i have been through a lot and i want the wedding to be ultra personalized. I am know i am going to go a little over that. What should I do?

Another problem my FSIL (one of my best friends) was in a car accident in august. She was in a coma for three months and now is not allowed to drink or stay out late. My BM's want to take me to the city for my BP. The problem is my FSIL will not be able to go. She is one of my BM as well. What should i do?

I am going crazy over these little problems because i don't want to hurt anyones feelings.

PLease help! Thanks

My church is giving me a hard time about a lot of stuff. I nearly want to say forget it, and do it at the place. I know what you are going through with this.

I would go talk to him again. Explain you might need a little more than 1 paragraph because you have been through a lot. (or whatever your reasoning) Assure him you will keep it brief, but you need to express your feelings. It's not like he's going to cut you off mid-word anyway.

What about a small get together(with all the BM's) where she can be involved, and still do your normal BP? Maybe talk to her about her feelings on it.

what about a dinner out with the bp, so she can enjoy herself, then the rest of the people can go out to the clubs afterwards?

and if your vows are going to be too long, then what about picking one of the shorter readings to balance the time?

Re: Some wedding questions?

I was thinking of taking my BP out to the spa and then to a nice dinner. My FSIL can go to both of those but my other BM want to take me out for my bachelorette party as well. I just don't know how she is going to feel about that.

About the vows i think the pastor is just going to have to deal with them being a little longer then a paragraph. It's my wedding and i am making a nice size donation. I just don't think he has the right to determine what i want to say. Vows are meant to be heartfelt and personalized, or am i wrong?

I am just overwhelmed.

With regard to your FSIL - I would still extend her the invitation to go out; explain to her the amount of time that you guys will be out, and let her know that although she's not fully well, she is more than welcome to come out. More than likely, she may not attend.

As for the church, this is tough. It's important that you follow their rules. You may want to explain to the Father your feelings - maybe he'll be understanding.

Good luck

I think you can respectfull y tell the pastor that this is not the Oscars where you have to say everything in under like 40 seconds.. you need more time. This is your Wedding, not his.. and it's not like you're gonna give the State of the Union address either.

I agree with butterfly20. It's a good idea.

Good Luck!

Re: Some wedding questions?

I think part of the reason they try to keep the vows short is for your own sake. You don't really want to stand up there with note cards so you remember everything, or forget half of what you wanted to say because of nerves and emotions. I think it's very possible to say what you need to say in a few sentences, you just need to condense things. I seem to be the only one with this opinion and it may be because I work for a newspaper. I'm used to cutting things down to just the most important facts. FH and I are planning on writing our own vows and we plan to keep it short and sweet.

Thanks for your help. I talked with my FSIL and she said she loves the idea of going to the spa and out with the BP for dinner.

About the vows I have decided to keep them sort of short and read a poem that means a lot to me and my FH
