Somebody has got to help me-Think I got it now.

I don't even know where to begin...
A few months ago I managed to have my AIM messages forwarded to my cell phone...
Now...I've long since cancelled AOL and consequently AIM...HOWEVER...People who had my SN on their buddy list STILL SEE MY SN on their buddy list...AND they can still send messages to my cell phone this way...
Here's the best part...(Two best parts actually...)
1) I cannot get into my old AIM account!!!!
2) AOL CANNOT help me...
What the heck am I supposed to do????????
Yes, I could tell my friends to take my name off their buddy lists...BUT!!!!!!!!!!! What about the people who have my name on their buddy lists that I dont' speak to, but who continue to harass me??? PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!

Can't you have AIM without having AOL? Try downloading it and opening it with your SN.

Try downloading the free version of AOL's AIM....and then uninstall the program or block your name, so you dont receive messages. I know there is away to do it

It IS downloaded onto my computer at work!! I just cant' get into it using my password...No matter where i am!! It doesn't work.
It's very annoying...And AOL is completely useless as far as helping me.

no...because i never actually had AIM on my phone...i just had my AIM messages forwarded to my phone.

i am confused, you want to be able to have these people text message you, or no? I dont think you cancel your IM when you cancel AOL. I have IM on my computer at home, but dont have AOL installed. Why dont you try going through your cell phone company instead of AOL? Ask them to cancel the forwarding of the messages to your cell.

yes, but then my old SN might still be up on peoples buddy lists and that is waht i want to change!

well, if you cancel your forwarding to your cell phone thru your cell company, and people IM you through your old screen name, then you wont get the messages at all, right? I would cancel the forwarding, then set up a new IM SN and send it out to everyone.
Are you sure you are using the right password/SN to sign into IM? Not to be asking stupid questions, but I can still access my old IM SN and buddy list that I had 3 yrs ago-they never closed it or anything.

CIMINOK,

This is what you need to do...Goto your desktop.

Goto Start - Settings - Control Panel

Find add/remove programs

double click on it

Find aol/Aim instant messenger

click on it and click remove

this should do the trick. If not let me know.

no. i had already tried that scotty.
now i just reactiviated my account...so i have AIM back on my screen...
and i guess my AOL is reactiviated too...
(but i dont want that!) i just want to make ammendments to my buddy list...so certain people can't see me.

did you figure out how to fix your aol yet? If not try this:

Click on your buddy list and sign on
My AIm
Edit options
Edit Preferences

Click on Privacy on the left side

and check off

block all users

Click apply
and ok...

That should work

I am not sure, but I dont think you can remove your name from other peoples buddy list- but you can block getting IMs from other people. I dont think you can take it off. Even if you remove me from your buddy list, you can still be on mine.
