Someone Elses' wedding date near your own...how do you feel?

Someone Elses' wedding date near your own...how do you feel?

If you had VERY close friends getting married near your wedding (in my instance, 2 days before) would you be honored, offended, or annoyed?

Does it depend on if it had anything to do with you or it was a date they picked on their own?

Thoughts....

Well, I made it a point to make sure that my wedding wasn't too close to anyone we were related to or were friends with.

And, then DH's cousin got engaged and planned his wedding near ours. So, I was pissed about that (among other things that transpired)

well, I was just playing on the knot and looking for people I know are engaged...their names popped up with a wedding date of 3/4/06, ours was 3/6/04 (WOW, that's wierd to look at!!)

I doubt it has anything to do with our wedding....I'm just curious to know why they may have picked that date.

One of my cousins almost booked her wedding 2 weeks before mine and I was pissed. our families are very close and I'm supposed to be in her BP. I think she was just trying to get married before me but she ended up pushing her's back.

I have a friend getting married two days before my wedding as well as EVERY WEEKEND before ours!!! No joke!!!! The best part is I was engaged before all of them! By the time I was able to finalize my date, they al booked there dates - It doesn't bother me at all ad it can also be because they are friends and it's not someone that would have been in my bridal party or vice versa.... My first thoughts about the fact that everyone was getting married a week before or after another was whether or not anyone was planning on going to the same place for honeymoon

If their wedding was taking place a year or years AFTER mine I would be excited and honored (if it had anything to do with my wedding date)!!!

I don't think this would bother me, but I can understand why it might bother someone else.

I remember when my sister got married in 1996, she ordered the rolls royce limo, and my cousin also had it BEFORE HER. She was pissed. now that I think about it though my sister is married now almost 9 years and it doesn't matter now!!

Your wedding will be unique, and obviously the other bride didn't care because she booked at the same time thinking...maybe it would be cool? don't know....

You were married in 2004 ? - and them in 2006 ? - I'm sure their decision to choose that date has nothing to do w/ your wedding. -
I thought you meant the got married 2 ACTUAL DAYS before you - in the same year THAT would annoy me !!

One of DH's friends got marreid 2 days before us, knowing what our date was. We were initially a little annoyed, especially b/c our best man was one of their GMs and a lot of the same people were invited. We thought it would take away from our day. I didn't attend b/c I was too busy then, but DH did and they came to our wedding. In retrospect, it didn't really matter.

I wouldn't care if someone got married my weekend during a different year.

Someone I work with picked her wedding to be two weeks after mine...at the same place! A little annoying but I was glad I was first!

i'm actually getting married 6 days after my first cousin. the date opened at the carlyle and we didn't want to give it up. he was engaged 2 months before us so i felt as long as we were married after him it'd be ok.

luckily they are going on a honeymoon a few months after the wedding so they will get to be at ours too!

my friend is getting married the day before our anniversary. we have to go to NC for it and would have liked to take a trip back to hawaii but we're just making plans to celebrate it someplace closer. it had nothing to do with us and it doesnt really bother me.

Im not sure. I dont think it would bother me but I know my FSIL flipped out when I wanted to a have a dinner for my sons confirmation the night before her wedding because she was afraid people would be to tired to show up to hers the next night(I find this ridiculous)but I could tell you that if I was getting married before her even a month before she'd have a canary so I think it depends on the person and their relationships(I cant stand my FSIL ) Is it bothering you?

If it was in a different year like mine is 8/21/05, if theres was 8/21/06, I would never care. LOL I wouldnt think anyone would arrange their wedding date to match mine either. I think most people go with whats available, cheap and convenient and nothing else. If its in the same weekend or something then yes.

I had to pick 8/21 because it was all the JT had left, but I know someone whos getting married 8/27. There are some guest going to both and they are traveling from Florida. I couldnt help it and hey, maybe they wont have to travel twice?

I think it has nothing to do with when your wedding is. They found a place they liked- and that was the date they booked.

I definitely agree that dates are important because of affordability. I know when fi and I went to Jericho Terrace they had all kinds of dates available, but had a cancellation for 5-27-05 and were offering it at a reduced rate...we jumped at the chance. March is one of those 'good' months where the rates are low, I'm sure they didn't do it because of you.

Re: Someone Elses' wedding date near your own...how do you feel?

I have two very important religous events in my family coming up in the next two years in addition to my wedding. My nephew (sister's son) is having his Bar Mitzvah in November 2005, and my niece (brother's daughter) is having her Bat Mitzvah the following fall of 2006. Bar and Bat Mitzvah dates are given in coordination with the birthdate of the child and how it coordinates with the Torah scriptures. They cannot be changed. Wedding dates are a lot more flexible. Many of our guests will be the same and from out of town. Ideally, it would be nice to have all out of town guests at each of the three functions to celebrate each individual blessing. I would never take away from the hard work and time that my nephew and neice have spent studying for this rite of passage. To plan a wedding too close to their events would take something away from them. I am not that selfish as they mean the world to me. That having been said, FH and I agree that it would be best to plan the wedding in between those two functions so that out of town guests can budget for travel expenses. Some people will have to fly across the country three times. I know for myself that I could not afford to fly across the country three times in one year AND give a gift.
