Someone, Please Explain...

Someone, Please Explain...

How can a company take an order for a piece of furniture .. tell you it's backordered .. give you an estimated delivery date .. then 1 month later give you a new date .. then 1 1/2 months later tell you that item is out of stock???

In the meantime, the item you purchased has been significantly reduced in price (from when you placed the order) and the company is still taking orders - yet they're telling you your order, placed 2 1/2 months ago, is 'out of stock.'

Meanwhile .. noone can tell me if 'out of stock' means perminently out of stock .. or temporarily out of stock.

How does this happen????

And why do companies dealing with furniture suk so bad at customer service???

And for the record .. this problem is with JC Penney .. and it's with this chaise I absolutely love!!

Ugh. I don't have any answers but I sympathize. It seems like so many people have problems with furniture buying. I don't know how a retailer wouldn't know about the inventory they have on hand. Pier 1 is the only place we bought from that didn't give us problems- when we ordered from Seamans and Levitz they pushed back delivery dates at least once both times.

Most of the time it is a production delay. The retailer goes by the date of the purchase order, the date the manufacturer promises the furniture will be at the retailers warehouse. Usually there is at least a weeks leeway in there to cover for any delays.

Unfortunately, *sometimes* the manufacturer does not get the furniture to the retailer in time to meet this date for whatever reason, leaving both the retailer and the customer empty handed.

Sometimes some the furniture comes in damaged or in the wrong colors etc, and then half the customers half to wait for the next shipment. So many things can happen.

It s ucks for all, especially when it is a huge delay like you are experiencing.

Hope you get it soon.

I feel your pain. I have had horrible furniture experiences. I will never buy from Macy's or Tiffany Furniture EVER AGAIN! It is so frustrating. I am convinced that they all lie to customers just to make a sale. Their word is never true! Good luck, I hope it all works out.

I know what you mean, furniture companies seem to have the worst reputation and continue to live up to their reputation!
