Someone Please explain the insanity of office climate control....

Ok..
So it's supposedly Spring right? So it's getting a tad bit warmer. Odd to hear how people say it's so 'nice' out when it's only 50 then again it's better than 32.

So WHY is it that today i have to put my 'office sweater' on? Why do they think just cause there's a sun out that we're warm inside. IM FREEZING!!

WHERE ARE THESE LITTLE MONSTERS?? I mean have you ever seen these people? I haven't. I work in a 44 story building and no one knows who's in control of the climate. I just keep imagining some dwarf in our basement (been there) giggling as he plays with the thermostat.

All winter it was comfortable to warm. Now it's freezing.

Same goes for the fools on the LIRR as well! Dont up our prices, save money and turn down the AC!

gripe... vent... bah! (say that 3X fast)

I can relate, HOWEVER, I work in a SWEAT SHOP!!!!

We put the air on a reasonable number, around 73, but it never fails...someone goes around at night & turns the heat on to 89!!!! ARE YOU INSANE!!!! If it was 89 out, I'll bet you that same MORON would be rushing home to turn on the AC!!!!

I can't ever wear a sweater & have to wear short sleeves here even in the winter. I would MUCH rather be cold...at least you can put something on...it's not like I can take anything off if I'm too hot.

Well, I guess I could, but I don't think my boss would like it!!!

Oh.... you're one of THOSE....

The little monsters in the basement are called operating engineers, they keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Who on a beautiful day as this will likely have to come running no less than 100x to every insane tenant who calls because he/she is either cold or hot. And most of the time the person who is freezing cold is sitting right beside someone who is sweating to death. So put on your sweater and hope for the best... it IS a 44 story building afterall. Its all computerized, most of the time the heat will shut down when the outside temp is 48, and then outside air is circulated to keep the temp moderate. Outside temp for A/C is also set to a certain outside temp, probably somewhere around 68-70. Maybe your space was not properly fitted with enough ducts, or vav boxes or thermostats, etc......

I dont think I'm one of 'them' but it's freaking freezing.

I NEVER wear short sleeves to the office. I have a tattoo that I'd rather show off at the office (It not my style to do that) so it's not like Im sitting here in a shorts and tank top complaining. Im in a business suit with a business coat and all. AND ITS FREEZING!

There HAS to be a better way. Heat rises? right? Why is it im all the way up here and freezing? You should see this floor.. its like odd zombie strange. No one was expecting it today and so those who took home their office sweaters are walking around trying to stay warm. Those (like me) who do have them are either comfortable or still a bit chilled (me) even the men have put on their dress coats. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

I honestly have never gone through the effort to whine about the climate to anyone here cause most either agree but dont know who to call or work in offices which are controlled individually. 2 people moved out of the closest corner offices but left their AC's on FULL blast. For the last 3 weeks you couldn't get close to that corner without feeling like youre walking by the meat freezers in the supermarket. I felt so bad for those who's cubbies were close to it. Folks finally moved into those but now the whole place is subzero

INSANE I tell you.

You may be right though.. I know other folks on other floors have it made. I walk down THERE to warm up. There's just GOT to be a better way. Gotta be!

Which is why I moved to New York City from Texas.. thinking Oh it must be so much cooler up there!
BAH then I came during the Heat Wave of 1999 ... My luck. I HATE summers here.. HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE. The subways, the homeless, the bother. ARGH Even the fact that during the SUMMER I have to bring a coat to and from work because of the LIRR's freezing temps.

I love that we still have cold weather. No problem. Just can we have just 5 more degrees in this office?

My office is a temperature roller coaster today. I was hot this morning, cold around noon, sweating 20 minutes ago and I think I feel A/C now.

I know I have a cold and maybe my body is feeling weird, but this is crazy.

And I agree about the LIRR. I always travel with a sweater even in 95 degree August weather, because the trains are SO cold.

Well then I guess I let the cat out of the bag. In a building your size, its no doubt run by several trolls, oops I mean engineers.
Contact the Building Mgmt. office, or the Property mgr. whichever your bldg has, they should be able to send someone up.
