Something blue?

Something blue?

OK this story is a little confusing but i'm going to attempt to tell it anyway.

My biological father and my mother were divorced when I was about4 or 5. They had a very very bad marriage which was really hard on my mother. He gave this ring to my mother before they were married.

He passed away when I was 7 and my mother gave this ring to me when I was 13 (at my bat mitzvah). I was wearing it until the day that I got my engagement ring.

Would it be bad luck if I wore it on my right hand as my something blue? No matter how rocky their marriage was, he was still my father and a large part of me.

(On a side note, my mother was re-married and my father is the most amazing person there could be. He adopted my sister and I when I was 8. He is my father in every meaning of the word-I am proud to be dancing with him on my wedding day)

Thanks girls.

It's hard since I don't think my mother wants me to wear it. I wouldn't want to do anything to upset her. I had told her, it meant something to me and would be a piece of my father. Regardless of how $hitty he treated her (as I got older I learned a lot more), he loved my sister and I.

I don't even know if i'll be allowed to wear it. It also depends on what the Rabbi says, since I heard something about you not being able to wear precious gems or something like that.

I don't think it's bad luck at all. and on that day it will be a reminder of your dad, being he can't be there with you.

Definitely!!! Even if you don't want to wear it on your hand, maybe tie it to your bo-k. Either way, i think it is special that you want to have him 'present' at your wedding.

Thanks, thats a great idea!!!

The good thing is that not only is it something blue, its something old. It's in an antique setting. I'm not completely sure where he got it from. Unfortunately after the divorce and his death we stopped talking to most of his family...they kinda forgot we existed. Plus, his parents are gone and his brother a year after him.

It's kinda sad since i'm not inviting my 3 cousins to the wedding.
