Something Borrowed? Sorry wrong board

Something Borrowed? Sorry wrong board

Does a cake knife and cake server count as something borrowed? I told my mom that I needed one or I could just use one that the RH provided. She said she had one from my Grandmother...I said maybe that could be my something borrowed? Does that count or does it have to be something I can wear? TIA

Sorry I wrote this on the wrong board...

I found this online:

Each item in this poem represents a good-luck token for the bride. If she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy. 'Something old' symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past. 'Something new' means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead. 'Something borrowed' is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride. The borrowed item also reminds the bride that she can depend on her friends and family.

It says you carry them all, but I don't see why you can't use the cake cutter as your borrowed. I mean, things have trickled down since the old days, and the old traditions and people interpret them however they want. I personally don't think there is a problem with it.

personally, i don't believe in luck, I'm just doing the whole 'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue' deal because it's a fun, cute little tradition. And I'm all into traditions!

But if you ARE into the whole good luck aspect of it, then technically your 'something borrowed' should be a part of your attire somehow (like the veil or a piece of jewelry, or even a hanky to pin inside the dress). But if you're not 'superstitious' - then you can use whatever you like for your 'something borrowed'. There are no rules

I think your something borrowed should be something you wear or carry down the aisle with you.
