Re: Something differnt......
I am not having any flower girls, so instead I will have the guests that are sitting closest to the aisle toss the rose petals down as I approach. I saw it on Inside Weddings on Cable and it looked terrific. I hope it works!

Re: Something differnt......
Ummm 1. doing anniversary dance ( I know its not different on here but I still havent been to a wedding doing it- so I will be different)
2. Naming tables- not numbering them
3. Having cupcakes as our wedding cake- not a normal looking cake
4. Having BMs all dress in differnt dresses/diffent styles- just all the same shade of a color
I think that might be it- not sure
Oh yea, i am also going to have them throw flowers before me too, forgot to add that

Re: Something differnt......
you can do what is called 'wrapping of the hands' instead of a unity candle, It is an old celtic tradition(at leas that is what I read online). It sounded beautful. Do a search in google for wrapping of the hands

Re: Something differnt......
its all the little touches that go into the ceremony and reception that make it special...
we made toasting cards...and put them at each plate - they had a German toast song on it...and how to pronounce it...
We played a Spanish version of the Hora (DH's dad's family was Jewish...his mom Spanish)
I made sure that every thing was color coordinated...
We had a good friend perform the ceremony
we included lots of info in our programs about the day we chose, the bridal party, etc...

Re: Something differnt......
Iread this somewhere and I'm doing it. I am having 2 roses put in my bouquet (somwhat hiddent). When I walk down the isle, I am taking one out and giving it to my mom with a kiss. After the ceremony is over, I am turning around taking out the other and giving it to my FMIL and giving her a kiss. Then proceeding to leave the ceremony with my H.

Re: Something differnt......
As part of the percerssion - I had the groom (my husband) escorted by his mom. The walked down to Sunrise Sunset. It was like she was giving him away. The I had my brother escort my mom down to 'Trumpet Voluntary. The bridal pary came down to 'Canon in D - pachebel' Then I was escorted by my dad to 'Bridal Chorus'. During the candle lighting ceremony we had the mom's light the canlde. I did that because I felt my mom did so much for me through out the wedding. My dad and I are very close, he walked my down the aile and I danced with him at the reception. however, I wanted my mom to feel special as well. It worked out very well.

Re: Something differnt......
As far as the reception goes.... My grandfather is the only living grandparent - for my husband and I. Way before the cake, the DJ announced 'In honor of Jane and John's grandparents who are no longer here (and listed their names) Jane would like to dance with her grandfather to 'you are my special angle'. It was very nice and everyone was very touched by the dance. As I danced with him, my husband, my parents, my brother his family, my in laws all gathered at the border of the dance floor.

Re: Something differnt......
Christine- Here it is. But this is not exactly how it will look. I am going to have the caterer talor it a little, probably less flowers, a differnt topper. I also saw little heart candies somewhere with initials on them- so I am thinking of putting an 'R' and an 'A' on each cupcake top. I know Martha Stewart wedding magazine had a similar one a while ago- not sure of the issue. But hers were all the same color- it didnt quite have the same effect.
I think I want to have the flowergirl pull a little wagon instead of the traditional basket. We are naming our tables too, we have a whole wine theme and are naming the tables after LI vineyards.

Re: Something differnt......
We were told our wedding was quite unique, here are a few things we did, or that happened:
Ceremony: I had both my parents escort me down the aisle, we gave jewelry to the female (pins, necklaces) parents & grandparents the night before to wear rather than corsages,
We had his mom marry us,
We allowed each of our siblings to choose a reading, and my brother ended up writing one that was about his memories of us as a child, His mom sang us a song as her reading, We wrote our own vows, We had a string trio play our ceremony and use unique music rather than standard music, we made simple tissue packs with glassine envelopes and pretty embossed seals, we had people toss lavendar rather than rice or petals.
Reception: Our child attendants (1 flowergirl, one ringbearer who was a girl) joined us in our first dance (we didn't plan that ), We split the throwaway bouquet up b/c two little girls caught it, so we split it between them but took one flower out for my mom and one for my grandma-which became an impromptu rose ceremony,
We made a donation to an international organization as our favor, had scrolls made telling people, and attached them to bags of earth shaped chocolates,
We had carrot cake. We had duck instead of chicken and people loved it. , We had a daytime wedding and people could go outside and have cocktails after the wedding (which people loved). , We had a song donated to us and several children picked rose petals off the cake table and made a circle of petals around us while we danced. , We had a photojournalist rather than a regular photographer so he wasn't in the way and didn't interrupt the party!, All of our paper products matched - invitation, programs, menus, table cards, thank yous, etc. (all handmade papers)

Re: Something differnt......
july...we didn't have chicken either...we had pork...and it was a big his...even after I told a BM and she said 'well I'll have to get a vegetarian meal then'...but she didn't and loved the food...
we also did something with roses in our ceremony...we exchanged roses and had something read about how the rose in ancient Rome symbolized love and when we exchange roses with each other we exchange our love...and we should do this anytime we have a fight, or anniversary, or whenever we feel like it...then afterwards I gave the one DH gave to me and gave it to his mom...and he gave mine to my mom...

Oh, I had a vegetarian option too! I'm vegetarian! Forgot to add that. It wasn't on the menus we made, but I let everyone coming know to ask for it if they wanted it, and several people did (it was a really cool portabella/roasted pepper/carrot/isreali couscous stacked entree. It was beautiful!)
