Something Extra

I need help.

Here is the thing, FI's Brother is getting married 5 months BEFORE us, and we wanted to do something a little extra (what, I don't know) to make our wedding stand out. We are looking for a 'wow factor' and thought we had one - a percussionist - but as soon as they heard, they too have booked a percussionist. Do you girls have an suggestions.

And... money IS an object. we are definitely working on a budget.

Thanks for any help!

What about having a chocolate fountain? You could try to negotiate the price with your hall. You could also try a cigar roller. La Rosa in NYC has really good prices that won't break the bank.

Re: Something Extra

how about you reading something to each other about how you feel on your wedding day and looking towards your future? Do this at the reception maybe at the tail end of the dinner being served.

Anniversary dance, maybe?

Guests will remember that.

A martini bar
A flavored vodka bar
A candy buffet

IMO and from past experience...from this point forward...do not mention what you will be doing at your wedding!! Also, I think your wedding will stand out all by itself! love makes it stand out, not a slipper basket!

I'm just a brat I guess. I always love to be unique. I just want my wedding to be special.

I don't know if Jericho does this but when they do the dessert, maybe you can have them put some sparkler's around the table. My friend just got married last week and they did this, and it looked amazing. They shut off the lights and lit the sparklers and the room looked so amazing. You should also look into having the chocolate fountain (everyone loves that) if you don't already. I am just trying to think of inexpensive things. I know Jericho also does this march around the room before they serve champagne, so that is kind of different and I think they do that for every party free of charge. You can have a cigar roller come to the party towards the end of the party (if your family is into cigars). I know some people that has had this and it was a big hit.

Good Luck

I agree. I made the mistake of talking about my details as well. These people are now using our ideas, a month before us.... :( They tried to use the same location, but luckily FFIL was able to talk them out of. I learned to keep quiet. I love talking about my wedding, but can't really do it anymore.

It costs nothing and no one will forget it: try to write a letter to be read to each other during the ceremony. Don't share it with anyone except for your officiant(s) - I promise you that will be memorable.

My brothers wedding is also 5 months before ours...they'll be two totally different weddings right off the bat as his fiance and I have completely different taste. Kind of ironic though because we are using most of the same vendors, we've been making alot of appointments together though that way we don't overlap anything. I'd suggest some DIY projects for invites and menus and simple stuff like that to add flare.

To be honest here- your wedding will be special because it is YOURS. How you and your FH are that day is what people will remember.
Don't worry if they are doing some of the same stuff as you- yours will be totally unique.

We handed out bags of bagels with CC and butter at the end. Everyone thought it was a nice touch.

i can beat 5 months---my brother is getting married 2 1/2 months before me...i feel the same as you. you are not a brat, you just don't want his day to take away from yours. i agree that love makes your day stand out. i would try not to think about what they are doing and just focus on what you and your fi want for your day. thats what i am doing. lucky for me i am getting married at the aquarium so i am hoping thats enough to set mine apart from my brothers. ~lacey
