What is your 'something old?' I read it has to be something from the bride's side because it's meant to be a 'link to her past'. I'm having trouble finding something from my family that I can wear! Does it have to be worn? Or can it just be something I put in my purse?

Re: something old
I will be carrying my grandmother's rosary beads wrapped around my bo-k. I am not technically wearing them. I don't think it has to be something worn.

I'm not really sure what the 'rule' is, I would just choose something that is meaningful to you regardless of if it is wearable or not.

Re: something old
I am wearing jewelry that I already owned as my day of jewelry, so that's my 'something old'...
You can always pin something old to the inside of your dress - maybe an old pendant, bracelet, anything really.

Re: something old
I am wearing a pearl necklace that belonged to my grandmother and then my mother. But I don't really think you need to worry about following the tradition of 'something old, something new, etc....' It's basically just a superstition. I don't know if I will have anything borrowed and that's okay with me.

Re: something old
I am wearing a diamond heart necklace that my FH gave me when we first starting dating. I am also wearing diamond stud earrings that my parents gave me when I graduated college (many years ago).

Re: something old
I bought a pair of diamond earrings to wear, but I borrowed my mom's diamond earrings the other night when I went to a friend's wedding. I really liked them and might use them as my something old. But like another poster said, I may not have something borrowed either. I could've worn my grandmother's necklace for my something old, but my dress has silver beading, and hers was gold.

Re: something old
yeah, if you want to follow the tradition, it should be something owned (generally older than the bride) by the older generation of the brides family
Your mom, grandma, or aunt should have a piece of jewelry or a hankerchief somewhere.... I don't think you have to WEAR it.... I think the hankerchief or other object in a purse 'counts'
here's my set-up old- diamond and sapphire ring my Oma (grandma) owned new- gown & veil borrowed- pearls mom wore at her wedding blue- garter
and last week, I got my sixpence for my left shoe in the mail love ebay!!!

Re: something old
you could keep it in your purse. Are you going to have your purse on you for the wedding though? I used baby sea pearls that were my grandmothers. My friend used her grandmother's hankerchief and wraped it around her bouquet.

Re: something old
I actually had my great grandmother's handkerchief. When I got my dress altered I asked for a 'pocket' to be made into the folds. I put the handkerchief in there. No one even knew I had a pocket. I was able to keep breath mints in there too for the reception.
