My MOH asked me this and I had no idea. Can you kill two birds with one stone with this tradition? Can you have a blue garter belt that is also new? Does that count as a new thing or blue thing or both? I know it is silly but it kind of makes sense

I guess you can do it that way if you like. It is all up to you. I am also having a blue garter belt, but my dress will be the new.

It does make total sense. I did that- w/ my something old/new. For my college graduation my Grandmother had given me her engagement ring. I had kept it not knowing what to do with it. When she passed this past Dec. it broke my heart that she would not physically be at my wedding. DH took the stone and had it made into a necklace for me to wear. Stone = old, necklace = new
