I know that showers are supposed to be a surprise. but since my FH is from OH and most of his family lives there, that's where my shower will be.
first of all, it's a month away, on 8/6. the invites haven't even gone out yet. And according to my FMIL, they probably won't go out for another week or 2. people make plans in the summer and I guess I'm concerned that no one will show up.
Secondly, FH told me last night not to have any expectations regarding gifts from our registry. he told me what I already knew... that his aunts and cousins like to shop in bargain basement stores and will probably not shop off of our registry.
The 3rd thing that bothers me is that since it's in Ohio, no one from my side will even be at my shower, except for my mom
I know I am just feeling bad for myself. But after all the showers I have been to (MANY!), it would have been nice to have my friends and family there... and maybe to get stuff that we actually want.

Try not to be so gloomy. Your wedding is not until November. Could it be possible that your family is planning a surprise bridal shower for you here as well so that your family and friends can attend?
Dont worry about it. I am sure it will be fun and the gifts you will get may not be from your registry but still may be useful.
Dont fret!! Just be happy and enjoy your planning!

I'm sorry - that completely *****. Have you talked to your mom about having SOMETHING that your family can attend? My FI's family is from OH too. My shower was in NY because a majority of my family live there (and the wedding will be there too). His mom, sisters and aunt flew in for my shower.
His mom wants to have a little something in OH for those who couldn't make it to my NY shower. Maybe you could do something like that...?

I don't think I am going to have a NY shower. my family is scattered throughout the country. CA, NC, VA, etc. So not many people on my side are in NY to begin with. 75% of the wedding guests are out of towners.

I'm sorry this is upsetting for you. I hope your day winds up being much more pleasant than you are anticipating.
Maybe you will have a small local shower among friends, any family in NY and coworkers. Could you suggest that you would like that to one of your bridesmaids or your Mom? Just a thought.
Anyway, try to cheer up, and enjoy the shower you do have as much as possible.

we have a similar situation i am from upstate Ny and Fh is from here since our wedding is here and alot of my friends/family will not be able to attend i wanted my shower back home! i think like 3 people from his family are coming, Fh was kinda annoyed by the entire thing and i told him hey its about compromise!!!! Dont worry it will all work out!

I would talk to your mom about it. A few of my friends and their FHs family lived in 2 different states so instead of making people travel they had two. Your mom might be happy she wont have to travel? Good Luck. I hope everything works out for you.
