OK, so I am a teacher and have the summer off, and my hubby works nights. During the summer we are not often up until 10 am!
I am up today because I happen to be going into work today. I am sitting here at the computer and 7:27am the phone rings. I figure it is my coworker cancelling or an emergency. NOPE it is my DH's cousin calling to RSVP for a BBQ that we are having soon? I was like ***? It is obvious from my voice that I am not completely awake. She goes on and on about her son walking (I know I got the monthly newsletter she sends (Normally I wouldn't be this grumpy but I seriously am not ready to talk to anyone yet this early! ) She then proceeds to say I bet that you are having this party to announce that you are having a little one! You guys are ready right? After we have covered all of that, she finally asks 'Did I wake you? I figured you guys were both up to go to work!' I said actually I just woke up, but since I am a teacher (and she knows this!) I am off for the summer and Frankie works nights (she knows this too) I said I was up but Frankie is still sleeping. Luckily we haven't put a phone in our bedroom yet so he didn't hear it.
So my question what is the earliest that you will call a friend/ distant relative at home to chit chat!?
I was always taught the 10am rule for during the week and noon on Sunday-- I am not saying that is right or wrong but that was my Mom's rules growing up.

I use the 11am-12 noon rule. My Dh is a musician and often plays 3-4 nights a week until 2-3am.

Re: Sometimes people make you wonder
Actually it depends. For the most part between 10am & 11am.
My mother on the other hand is notorius for call my home at 7am and waking up dh and I on the weekends. Which pisses dh off because he worked 4am to 1:30pm and weekends were his only day to sleep in.
No one seem to curteous about such things as this.

Re: Sometimes people make you wonder
During the week it's 9.30 or later. I won't even call me sister at work until after that unless it's really urgent.
On the weekends it's more like 11.00am.
In the evenings, I won't call anyone after 8.30pm unless they asked me to.

I agree! I cant believe that! I used to be on the radio at 4:30 AM and in between breaks I was sooo bored and I wanted to call people by 7 - but just because I was up doesnt mean everyone else is!

I usually wait until 9 on weekdays only if I know that they will be up by then. Otherwise I wait until the afternoon.

Re: Sometimes people make you wonder
If I don't know the person's schedule, I usually wait till 11 or 12.
My mom, I know is up early, and doesn't go out untill about 9, so I could call her early. But if anyone called me at 7:15, I'd be pissed, unless it was my boss or an emergency. I am up, but I am getting ready for work! I have things to do--no time to chat. Barely even talk to FH, some mornings. . .

Eew, no offense, but your friend sounds really annoying. (the newsletter thing threw me over the edge...)
I wouldn't call anyone before 10:30 or after 9:30.

Re: Sometimes people make you wonder
When I was growing up, the rule in my house was no calls before 9 am in the morning and after 11pm at night. On the weekends, it was more like no calls before 11am! My parents always slept late.
Now that I am married and we have our own set of rules, we never usually care when the phone rings and my DH is always on call for his job anyway. We are usually up by 9 on the weekends.

Re: Sometimes people make you wonder
I don't even have to go into work on weekdays until 10, so if the phone rings early enough to wake me, I'm pissed! I won't call anyone before 11ish during the week and usually not before noon on the weekends. The only exception to the morning rule is if you're intentionally tryin to wake someone up to get them to go to the beach. That's the only time it's acceptable.

Having been a bartender for over 10 years....everyone knows if you call me before 2pm, it had better damn well be an emergency.
