Somewhere tropical and warm to visit in January... Opinions on Swept Away Negril or other suggestions?

Hello ladies. My hubby and I are thinking about a mid winter get away. We'd like to go somewhere with a pretty ocean/beach and warm weather at the beginning of January. We are lazy, sit in a lounge chair sipping a smoothie while listening to the waves types. We may go kayaking or snorkeling for an hour, but thats as adventurous as we get. Shopping isn't of interest, nor do we care about leaving the resort to be honest. Good food is also wanted.

At the moment, the most appealing destination seems to be Swept Away Negril. For 7 nights it is about $4000 total for both of us including airfare, room, all meals, watersports, alcohol, etc. The resort is adults only which is a big plus for us, we like to hear the waves, not kids! Has anyone been there or had friends go there?

Or, is there somewhere else you think that I should be looking that is a similar price? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks ladies!!!

What about Bora Bora or Moorea?

Check out the Wyndham at Sugar Bay in St. Thomas. That is my absolute FAVORITE island in t he whole carribbean. DH and I have visted about alot of them and we've gone back to St. Thomas about 3 times. Megan's Bay is like heaven on earth! I think we paid about $3000 for 6 nights all inclusive in June. Check the weather forecast, though I think they have great weather all yr round. You can find their vacay packages on american airlines vacay packages (on the AA site). Good Luck!

OK- check out Zihuatanejo, Mexico... I LOVED it there (went there for our HM). The people there are so nice- there are great resorts, great food (right on the beach) and no worries re: getting sick from water, etc... There are great low-key fishing/snorkling trips.. but the best is just chilling on the beach and soaking in the sun (we went February by the way)...

Zihautanejo Info

We stayed at Villa Carolina for 7 nights.. with airfare and hotel it was $3k. Meals are very affordable (no more expensive than $35-45 for dinner, $50 max if you drink like a fish).

Bora Bora or Moorea take soooo long to travel to, and the time change kicks my butt. I'd want to have more than a week to go there and really enjoy it.

The Wyndham looks beautiful, but it seems to be about 20% more expensive for January...

So pretty though... how many kids are there generally?

From what I had seen in Jamaica, the water is a lot more beautiful in Montego Bay. The water in Negril had a darker, not quite as blue look to it from where I was swimming.

The resort has NO KIDS and only 5 suites so no more than 10 people or so... very private and very clean. They open the bar at night, make hor's, etc.

How is the beach there? I couldn't find any photos...

By the way - $4K seems like a lot for that resort. Have you looked at the better resorts prices?

Also - if you are willing to do a 'wild card' I think Club Med has them for $1K a person.

So nice- the first picture I posted is off the beach. It's SOOOO nice, super clean, and not crowded at all. You can get $10 50 minute massages on the BEACH too in a white tent.

Wild Card means I don't know the destination right? Some of them are very, very kid focused so that is a scary possibility to me. (I went to Club Med 3x with my family when I was a kid... hehe)

Club Med prices for a standard room the week we are interested in are about $4200 to Paradise Island.

I have to second St. Thomas. Short flight, same time zone and Magen's Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. Puls, you can go to St John for a day trip on a sail boat or just to snorkle. St. Jon's has to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Believe it or not, the last time I was there, I stayed at a time share that was a 10 minute walk from Magen's bay. it was AWESOME, and very very cheap. Not sure if that would be an option for you.
have fun, you are getting me in the mood for a vacation!!
