So the one thing that I'm slacking on... The only thing I don't have done yet... My must play and do not play lists for my DJ!
My question is, for a five hour reception (we are having a five hour one because there is no cocktail hour), how many songs do I need on my must play list? And what's the right ratio of slow and fast? Can anyone help me?!

Your MUST PLAY list can be as little or as long as you'd like. Me and the FH just sat down and wrote all our favorite songs. We gave him a list of 100 songs...and 25 of them were slow songs. Then we told him to add in whatever he though went well with our choices. Have fun!!

I think you can put as many as you want and tell him to play from that list... so that all the songs played you will like... usually they will play around 80-90 songs for the whole night.. that probably includes CH though, so a little less for you.. just make sure to tell your DJ the songs that must def be played though

First talk with the DJ. Get a feel for him, and let him get a feel for you.
When we spoke with our band, we told them we wanted 70's 80's and 60's. We did NOT want much of ANYTHING modern. So we will give them somgs that we want played 1. Paradise by the dashboard lights 2. Twist and shout 3. oh what a night 4. joy to the world
So he gets an idea of what kind of musiuc we want played.
etc.
We will also give a list of songs they shold not play no matter what: 1. Chicken dance 2. Elec slide 3. YMCA
